If your footbrake is not fully depressed, the car can still move off abeit the red alarm in the instrument cluster. However, if the footbrake is fully depressed, the rear wheels will jerk & remain locked if the accelerator is gently stepped. If you floor it, the car will still move but rather akwardly slow with brake screeching noise. On a related note, I use the brakes as a launch control. I had a wonderful time testing it during the recent Merc Driving Experience on all the models that I drove. I found the SLK best.

1)Switch off the ESP

2)Step on the brake with the left foot

3)Step on the gas & rev to about 2500rpm

4)Let go the brakes & floor the gas pedal to metal simultaneosly, you will hear a bit of tyre screeching as all hell break free to power way.

It's a pity that the Merc cars do not come with Launch Controls feature (AMG models excl) as I had a wonderful time using it in my Golf GTi.

Try it but be careful! Caveat Emptor..:bounce:

Mmmmm...jtang What is fully depressed for brake....?

press very inside Liao... 2 clicks I think...

I notice some cars I tried in the driving experience like e250 coupe, when footbrake press, no matter how also won't move...

The rest is like if foot brake press in Liao never release will still move but just red warning....

I personally think as long as foot brake is depressed then shouldn't move....

6008, who missing?

The 'bite' on the footbrake varies in different cars & models. Newer cars generally bite well, 1 click is all it takes to stop the car from rolling down a slope when parked. Some cars like mine needs 3 clicks (2 clicks when new) due to wear & tear. Btw, this level of bite can be adjusted when you send the car in for brake service. Personally, I would prefer 2-3 clicks. Others may prefer super tight at 1 click. As for your Merc Dr Exp, this explains why some models don't even bulge when gassed...but did it jerk? Those that doesn't bite so well will move off as usual with the alarm ringing. You should be able to feel that it's rather lethargic in performance as the footbrake is retarding the speed. Ignoring this alarm will cause premature pad & rotor wear with increased fuel consumption.

My old S80 was electronic brake, so when engage D and step on gas pedal, the brakes will be automatically released.

For my E cab, my brakes were fully depressed, but the whole car still moved. Ouch, only indication had was the cluster turning red. Maybe my butt too fat that's why couldn't feel the jerk. :becky:

Is this how you do the spinning wheel, smoking tyre stunt? :)

Haha...yes! But too much wheelspin defeats fast take off. The trick is to find the sweet spot where there's min wheelspin for a quick launch. VW & Audi ,Ferrari/Porsche has this launch control feature where the car has a preset sweet spot done already. Every launch is consistently sweet.:becky:
