For CGI cars, they are made to drink RON95 best. If anything higher, it's possible that the firings in the pistons are too hot or premature...giving rise to CEL.

So which brand of petrol and which grade is good for Mercs CGI? It is so confusing....

Ah... SPC. Personally never experience before, but i have a friend who had water in his fuel tank after pumping SPC at K******y Road and his Peugeot had to go to workshop for a week to overhaul the engine. Told me not to go to that particular kiosk.

To me all direct injection engine should pump as high quality fuel as possible... ie. RON97 or above.

I remembered when VW just launched their 2.0 TFSI for Golf GTI (MkV), the fuel requirement is minimum RON98. The 1.6 FSI too, need min RON98. But later VGS said they detuned the engine down to be able to accept RON95... i wonder how true was that.

Anyway, in Malaysia, the VW Golf MkV GTI have many problem because they only have RON97 fuel... unless they pump Shell V-Power (which is RON98). or use fuel additive octane enhancer.

So, to me, direct injection engine like the CGi needs RON98. Just my opinion.

Caltex used to have RON100 ... but not anymore. Can try to use octane enhancer to boost the fuel to RON100.

Haha!

hi bro :)

er.. higher.. means Ron 98 or Ron 92?

Usually the bigger the Ron number .. means less likely to "pre-ignite".

"The Octane rating is a measure of how likely a gasoline or liquid petroleum fuel is to self ignite. The higher the number, the less likely an engine is to pre-ignite and suffer damage."

As the stock CGI models are performing optimally at RON95, any higher RON that you put in will not improve the performance...merely burning away your $. Save the $ & send your car for grooming lah.
