W204 - Wiring issue on engine mgmt system

All,

Just wanted to share my car (W204-2010) issue, while slowing down my car engine suddenly dies off while was driving along nicol highway last thurs.

An initial reply from C&C was 'upon checking we are suspecting could be due to some wiring on the engine management causes the engine to stall, as is only a quick test result we will need to carry out further diagnosis'

Today my car was checked and their analysis was that we "did not work" the car enough thereby leading to carbon build up that obstructed the sensor of the engine system. Job done was to install a wire harness??

The SA advice was-we need to drive harder and prevent carbon build up.

Any comment or advice??

I guess I should select "S" mode from now onwards.

Instal additional wire harness or wire harness replacement?

What's the additional wire harness for & how does it prevent future occurrence?

If it's a replacement, what wire harness was replaced?

BTW A warm :welcome: to the forum & hope to see U at our mthly GTG!

FYI from C&C:

"Thank you for your email dated 09 July 2011.

With regard to the service on your vehicle, on 06 July 2011, please allow us to share with you that our technical team at Eunos Service Center, had identified the cause and attributed it to the wire harness at the intake manifold pressure sensor, which has failed. Therefore the wire harness was replaced and your vehicle was released to you after our technical team are satisfied that your vehicle is in good working condition at the point of inspection.

Pertaining to the comment by our Service Adviser, Mr. Vincent, it was a precaustionary advise to prevent the possibility of carbon build up in the engine system. Nevertheless, please accept our sincere apologies for the mis-communication and any inconvenience caused.

We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to clarify your concerns and assure you of our best attention always. Should you have any queries or require further assistance, please feel free to contact myself or any of our Customer Relations Officers at 64719111 and we will be glad to be of service to you.

Yours Sincerely,

Good to receive a reply :)

1. Malfunction due to MAP sensor wiring. So they have replaced it. That solved the problem.

PERIOD (i mean.. The End)

2. The "clear carbon" was just a way for the service staff to show "connection" with customers :) aka idle talk aka "xian2 liao2" lol.

PERIOD (also same.. I mean.. The End)

:)

Well said Doc but not on my previous W203.

I was charged an arm & leg (>S$2k) for a "new engine harness" and some sensors.

Very new at that time.

CEL lighted - went to outside workshop which I frequented!

Workshop told me it was "a design flaw" and 1 out of a few W203 get this problem of engine oil getting on to the map sensor & wiring.

Changing the harness and sensors were not the end, they have to "modify" to prevent future "leakage of engine oil getting to the wire harness and sensors".;

It has been a good 3 years since then and my brother is driving my previous car without problem since.

No more warranty at that time, workshop did the repair job, so cannot get back to CnC. This is somethng like some bros W203 driver side arm rest always got yanked off after some time - way after warranty period.

thanks kepting1sg for the reminder.. the wiring harness is actually a huge mess of wire... hmmm... if it failed.. it's quite a big job to replace the harness... UNLESS.. they CUT and SPLICE into the wire to replace it....

hi sk968, how long was your car in the workshop for the repair work?

we may want to take a look at the wiring :)

wire harness usually both ends are joint to a connector. No issue at all is a plug & play.

:) cool stuff :)

thanks :)

IIRC They took more than a day to replace the engine harness.

As I m a noob, they told me some sensors were still working after cleaning up and some have to replace. The final bill came to a "shocking" high near $3k.

My knees went weak....hahahaha! LL still has to pay up.:Cry::Cry:

I have the same problem when i work the engine too hard..

started once when i was travelling on NS highway at about 180kmh for a while, then the next min i could smell something burnt in the cabin. since then when i rev to redline, the same smell comes in...

is it because of the new 1.6L BE engine not up to standard to withstand the induction force from supercharger? or was it because my engine is still new, 1st servicing is not due yet.

Bro, can cfm its due to AC filter? Rememberg all my previous rides: Opel Astra, Peugeot 407, Lancer GLX 1.8 turbo & STI has e smell too when rev to redline. Current ride W204 180K no escape too. :tsk:

Always tried findg since except fr Subaru coz workshop 'BMS' says stock doesn't cme w AC filter. And bcoz always think performance cars smells when hardcore so didn't suspect any nor asked BMS why needed install. :mod:

Pls adv or any bros. Kam sia. :pray2:

Ya..u guys are right...when either left or right bulbs blows off regularly is a sign of wiring issue..cause I got my left rear bulbs change twice in a very short time and I drove back c&c to complain and they found out brake wiring has slit burnt mark..and after the sets of wire change till today still goes well and shall see...I will grill the SA for an answer for every problem comes from the car..
