the gains look low , not sure why as CGI is a turbo charged car right?

Think this is not an ECU remap but I think maybe this is the MKB piggy back ECU they were promoting for quite some time liao!

Thinking back, this is still the same 1.8L M271 engine.

From the lowest MB variant they have churned out 143hp and

max out at 184 with the SC.

Now with the stock turbo, it has squeezed another 60hp from the same M271 engine to 204hp.

No engineering expert - Really dunno how much more horses MB can further "squeezed" out from this M271 engine. :hand:

Mmm.... There is no replacement for displacement?

IMHO, most stage 1 tuning results in similar gains. If you look across brands like Brabus, Kleeman, OBD, Vath and etc, with respect to the 250cgi setup, you usually see gains of 40+ hp and nm. I believe these tuners are probably able to get more and do not do so due to hardware limitations. So in terms of decision making I guess its very much a matter of reliability and costs. :becky: Anyway from what I know so far all the above are offering piggybacks instead of reflashing like what Kep bro mentioned since they have not been able to access the ecu successfully.

30-40bhp and 40-50Nm is a very decent gain from a puny 1.8T engine IMO and you will definitely feel the differences.

For the price of around $1.8-2.3k, dollar to real power gain is quite value for money. Non-turbo car need to spend a lot more and may not even get the gain above if the numbers are true which I believe the top German brand is quite reliable on this note.

IMHO

Piggy back may claim 40+ hp but probably at the "best environment" in terms of ambient temperature and altitude.

With our "hot climate" probably lesser than claimed and deduct the power loss from crank, how much is left at wheels.

Some of "these piggy backs" or at least 1 I had experienced, forego some low end torque for higher hp at higher rev.

The one that I had, the extra "horses" come in only after 3300 rpm and below that some low end torque are lost.

Low end torque is what we need most on our S'pore roads.

How I wish our TC rides ECU can be easily remap like some other conti cars!

Agreed. Is all about trade-off isn't it?

Re-flash is the best if not either use Sprint Booster or heavy right foot method!:becky:

Welbo - so right!!!! It's all about trade off - People told me years ago when I had higher hp & torque at higher rpm and lost the low end torque - hard to get free lunch!:hand:

Wanna the car to go faster - hantam pedal to metal.....

I bought the W212 E250 not that it's a fast car which it is not.

I bought it as what it's.

I believe U have many rides and U bought each ride for it's own merits.:becky:

I changed many rides over the years but don't have many rides!!

I always believe "Want a Fast Car, Buy a Fast Car!".

Modding can only do so much and sometime when you are not knowledge-able or careful, you do more harm than good. Amt spent on modding can actually buy you a faster car in the same model range. Pple buy 320i and mod like seow can actually afford a stock 325i easily.

Totally agree. No point modding actually.

Mod not for power per say but if you want a sportier exhaust sound, yes go for after market proven brand exhaust not those "in house" brand by some exhaust workshop in singapore. Also mod only for the sound and don't ask for whether the exhaust will give more bhp or not? Totally pointless.......

Had my E250 CGI installed with OBD kit a month ago.

Was quite happy with the increased response, but can't describe the difference since it is based on "butt" feel. Can feel that the engine seems more active when you step on the accelerator. Especially if it is on Sports mode.

Didnt have chance to test out further as was overseas for business trip. When I came back recently, I tried to drive around and can't remember the difference, as I believed I have got used of this.

However, I tried to remove the OBD kit today and drove the car around. Hey.... The car feels heavier and moving off seems slower without the OBD kit!

I don't care for more power for our E250, I just want the gearbox to work well with the engine in delivering the response when we want it. Right now I'm finding the torque coming in pretty late at above 3,000rpm and I wonder if there's any way to let the engine boost at a lower rpm - we don't even mind a lower power/torque figure. Worth the sacrifice for a more satisfying daily driving experience.

Then you should have bought the E200 as the peak torque comes in between 1,800 and 4,600 rpm whereas for the E250, it is between 2,000 and 4,300 rpm. In theory, the E200 is more driveable in city traffic. I don't think a tuning box will help you if you want more low end torque. You may prefer the old Kompressor engine or just a high cc normally aspirated engine like the E300 or E350. Just my 2 cents.:becky:

That's quite a pity - although I understand that both cars are using the same engine (E200 CGI and E250 CGI); I don't see why it's not possible. As for the E200 being more drivable in the city, I'd tend to agree though I've not tried it before. Guess we made a mistake with this... I've always thought that a higher model range is better to drive in any situation. Guess this only applies to the open road for the E250.

Hi brudders, may i just clarify?

With this kit installed, warranty is not an issue?

So far, gains weren't that positive? Advisable to install?

Regards

Warranty not an issue as you can remove and nobody would know.

Yes, gains not too noticeable. Better try Dr Hanson's solution. At least he uses it personally and he has dyno-ed it.
