Hi guys,

Need some advice here.

Visited MBM today for 80K servicing (service B)and they proposed changing engine mounting for approx. $700. Personally I did not detect any vibration so I declined.

My question is :

I recall in an old thread albeit an old one that the cost should be $300-400 instead.

http://sgmerc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6145&page=3

Seems to me the cost is highly-inflated now? What qns should I raise pertaining to this mounting replacement?

Thanks in advance

Ken

No mention of it. Should it cost $300 by itself?

I went for service B, only changed engine oil, filters, the usual.

I assumed transmission oil comes under service A?

No mention was also made whether the $700 covers engine mounting or engine+gearbox mounting replacement?

Think I'll make call to clarify.

Do you guys have regular guy at mbm to recommend?

Afaik, there is no need to change ATF for Merc. When I check with my mech, he says Merc no need to change. I went to google, and the info I got is still the same. Some even mentioned that gear change not as smooth after changing ATF. Correct me if I'm wrong...

mate... mercedes used to have "Sealed for life" auto transmission fliud..that means.. no need to change ATF but they retracted their position because of high gearbox failure. do change the atf etc when needed. gearbox will run smoother... however if your car is a high mileage car that never has the gearbox oil / atf change.. then just leave it...

Wow... luckily I frequent this forum, else I would not know of this fact... My mileage is now 64kkm for a 6 years old W203. Should I wait till 80kkm? Where is a good place to get it change besides MBM?

Thanks, this is interesting. When you say leave it, it should mean it's working fine. What are the symptoms I should watch out for which suggests a change of ATF?

My understanding is to change ATF at around 70k to 80k km for my W203. I had it changed twice. Logically, oil in a hot and stressful environment will deteriorate over a period of time, so it is beneficial to change then to use poor quality oxidized oil..

i changed my atf on my w211 for about 300 sgd which includes gasket etc... and they flushed the whole system and added new oil in. i changed it at comfort delgro in bradell

( spark autocare)..however given that star black has a very clean garage and a professional run team of mechanics and service advisors.. u may want to consider going there. my car has done 155k km already. Btw if your car is already 6 years old.. mite as well give it a change of Atf. Also in my car, the transmission in the cabin had a tik tik sound when i changed from P to D, it was a bushing and that was done for SGD$25 from hin lung when i replaced rear brake pads and discs

well, i dont know the symptoms of ATF being in the gearbox for too long but usually u can "feel" that the car needs a change of oil.. also in high speed driving gear box oil tends to heat and deteriote which can / may cause premature wear of your gearbox or even failure

When I was previously driving a Jap car, I did a change of ATF. After that change and when I put my gear to "D", the car moves off a little without stepping on the throttle. Moving off (without stepping on throttle) was practically crawling before change of ATF. Also, after the change, the accleration of the car felt smoother.

What I'm guessing is that ATF fluid does have something to do with some required pressure which assists an automatic car in its accelaration bah. Just my guess only hor boys. :becky:

Ha, mine gives a faint "tuuu tuuu" sound when switching between D and R mode. Tell-tale sign? Hmmm
