Newbie Merc Owner question: Hacking the onboard computer?

Hi guys,

So glad i found this forum! Tons of information to be found in here! :bounce:

I've just gotten a 2yr old w204 C200K and am facing some problems.

I've sent it into a workshop to get it resprayed, and apparently they fried my onboard computer while doing the job. So now my airbag (restraint system) warning light is perpetually on. The workshop was decent, they insisted on fixing it back to its original condition (well i think that should be the way).

Problem now, they're taking very long to work on it, citing reasons that my car is not C&C so have to "hack" the new onboard computer. Can anyone advise me if thats just :censored: BS or is there any truth to that?

It's been (2weeks spray job) + 4 days back in workshop after a 3 day drive. Missing my car very badly already.

Sounds like your on-board computer or ECU is not "fried".

Probably during spray painting they have disconnect your battery or remove one of your air-bag.

A quick visit to workshop with Diagnostic Tools should be able to reset the warning light!

Yeah they removed my battery and apparently claimed to have shorted it.

This place is nearby MBK/MBM and they said do not have the proper diagnostic tool to solve it..

Sian.

If i bring to MBK will they charge me an arm and a leg?

I dont mind doing my brakes with them so they can help me

Sigh, just called the bloody workshop again, now he claims even with the new board and going online etc (whatever he means by that) he still can't fix the car.

Airbag retraint warning light still on.. wah f%^*&^%(*^(k damn sian...

Still ask me for 1 more day to confirm whether can or cannot do it..

Can anyone advise me on what to do now?

Should I give them 1 more day or just pull the plug, take my car go somewhere else (TWM warranty workshops) and do it and charge the first workshop for it?

If so, how's the protocol like? Do i need a letter from them admitting that they will pay for the cost incurred?

Woohoo!!

Happy for U!

If ECU fried - it's easily >$7000! I guess it's just a simple error code reset!

Hope U can join us at our mthly gtg this coming Sunday!
