C180K problem

Hi,

Would like to check with fellow members here, my wife's 5 month old C180K suddenly started having violent engine vibration while idling and while on the move, car refuse to rev beyond 2000rpm or downshift even when WOT. basically whole car becomes very powerless and vibrates badly..

it has been sent in to C&C but SA cannot advise much on the spot as apparently no similar incident before and there was no CEL.

Anyone here has experienced similar issues before? btw car is totally stock and travelled abt 9000km only.

No experience with c180 with yout description, but for other cars, it seems like the engine mount has given way!

Err meaning of WOT & CEL?

How come you didn't leave yr car till C&C get it resolve?

Hi bro,

which mean u left C&C wo further analysis? If nt, better go back n asked them to re-download yr ecu. shld b software issue rather then hardware since its barely 5mths old. Yr ride pre-owned or new? pai say to ask. :becky:

otherwise, there's another possibilities, pumped below recommended fuel grade (min.95RON but did refilled 92????) :tsk:

WOT - Wide Open Throttle - i.e to rev up the engine to the red line from a stand still, let go the brakes while holding the gas pedal to metal and hoot even the tyres are spinning!!!!!! :lol:

CEL - Check Engine Light - Error Message for Engine Problem!

Rp 2 worth!!!!

It's with C&C now. Awaiting diagnosis. 5month old it's brand new. She's first owner. Always on 98 Ron. that's why isolating all these factors, I cannot accept if there's anything wrong with the car.

Sounds like the ECU went into "safe mode".

Not so easy to nail down the cause of it as it could be a case of elec glitch i.e software bug to something mechanical like manifold or compression leakage.

Understand ur frustrations. Hope they find the cure soon.

The C180K is not like your S4 - so not WOT lah!.....hahaha! :lol:

She floored the car, it won't go lo.. Literally stuck at 90kmh. Will only know outcome next week cos we flying off today. Thanks for the welcome!

I know of my friend's car, pumped at a certain SPC ... whole engine has this same problem. Went back to workshop and they diagnosed the petrol has water in it..... need to overhaul the whole engine. He swear never to pump SPC again.

Maybe this could be one of the reasons....

It's possible especially when our ride re top conti car n w both supercharge & turbocharge builds.

But i had my bad past experience w peugeot 407, my ecu went into really safe mode after few days she detected a faulty frt susp issue. And just a day before my appt w autofrance she refused to go up nt even 50km as i floored! Then next morn, she die on me. :fish: Luckily its under warranty fr sure as its barely half year old. :Cry:

so bro abv lucky liao as can drive back to see & see.

hope will resolved smoothly n early. :becky:

Hi welcome to SGMerc :) Yr C180k since new, IMHO could possibly have one of these: 1) Throttle Body (TB) stuck at a certain angel 2) a faulty MAF Sensor wire reporting low air thus fuel requirement (v unlikely) 3) may be severe intake pressure loss (some intake parts has crack/hole) TPS (throttle position sensor) failure 4) up stream oxygen sensor reporting low air intake 5) exhaust got something choke? like some sabotage? 6) ECU failure as mentioned by bros?

All of the above should trigger a CEL of some sort, but not always, especially partial failure or jam. eg a piece of something broke/got sucked into the air intake pathway and stuck the TB, then there may be no error. I dun think there's engine error for a merc, 5 mths or 5 yrs, since its 1.6 engine is well tested and built.

Hope C&C can have a good tech and solve your problem soon :) Do let us know the outcome. Cheers!

Okie. Diagnosis was cylinder 3 had excessive knocks due to petrol contamination. Wasn't water.. Probably some minute particulate matter that got in..

What's disappointing was car was collected with several scratches on bonnet.

Oh i see. Luckily u hve it done professional diagnosis. If prolong driving will hve yr piston head or piston ring or even cylinder wall damage. Tat ll cost alot bro. :whistle:

so wat n how s e repair? Drained e petrol? If u hve time, write in to tat pump station to lodge an complaint. This ll help n prevent others fr fallg as a innocent victim, correct bro? :becky:
