W202 C180 advise needed.

Hi merc bros. I am new here and would like some advise

I have long been a fan of Mercs and am going to buy my first merc.

I have been checking out an acquaintance's W201 C180, looking to buy it over.

The car is generally in a good condition except for a couple of dings, a slight crack at the front bumper and the paintwork need a little restoration work.

However I feel that there is a lag in driving off and the car seems to be "torque-less" upon moving off.

Any bros here know what are the potential issues for this?

If moving ahead, I would like to get this car, any bros here would kindly advise

1. how much am I looking at to overhaul the engine and transmission?

2. any good workshop to recommend for the above services, so that i may gather some ball park figures to factor into or this purchase.

I would also welcome any other form of advise from the brothers here!

Many thanks and I am looking forward to you guidance! :hail:

That car got a sport mode ? Our W204 default is comfort mode moves off in gear 2 instead of gear 1. Selecting sport mode puts the car in gear 1 for moving off making the move off from a stand still much better.

If you know the owner and trust him, it is always a good idea to buy the car from someone you know. I always like the old merc but I would not dare to buy from the market without knowing the history of the car.

There is this machanic located at the Esso station at Kay Siang Road which I heard is pretty good with Mercedes. My friend's W124 is serviced by that workshop and another friend driving a newer merc goes to him for minor issues.
