keyless Go

Hi,

My W212 comes with keyless entry/go. When the engine still running, removing the key from car will activate a signal showing KEY NOT DETECTED.

Problem is, the car can still be driven! i tried drving it for a distance, nothing happens. Is this normal?

Same here...but if you off the engine, you will need the key to be in the car (in your pocket) before you can start again...:becky:

Yes is a norm. This is one of the reason in UK keyless go is not allowed for Mercs. There is instance ppl forget to switch off the car & engine running till next morn.

This is what happened to me yesterday. Went for lunch to realised the engine and air-con still running when i came back.

So i took the car for a test wihtout the key inside.

The other thing i observed is the rear blind does not retract back when engage in R.

And until now, i have no idea what is the 'P' light switches for??? (where you can turn to either left or right side)

The "P" on the light switch refers to parking lights. Bro lightning is right. Allow me to elaborate further. Let's say you park your car on the left side of a dark street. You turn the light switch to "P" and use the "right side" option. When you get out of your car, you will see that the pole lights (front and rear) on the right side are on. The reverse ("P" and "left side" option) is true. The purpose is to allow visibility of your car to other drivers so that they don't accidentally smash into your vehicle.

Gurus, please correct me if I'm mistaken!

i supposed there reasons to why they want to keep the engine running. for one, i'm quite sure i don't want my engine to die suddenly because it cannot detect the key for 1-2 second. radio frequency (keyless go or others) is inherently unreliable. we can't trust it will pass the 'key-in-car' test all the time!

Can you lock your car when the engine is on? I couldn't. So when I couldn't lock, I know something is wrong.

Once your unlock and start the engine, you can drive without the "key".

However, you cannot start the engine once you stop if the key is not with you.

You also cannot lock your doors if the key is not with you.

You can only drive till the petrol runs dry.

Same to my 523i F10 too.
