FAQ: W211 E-Class Comand APS NTG2.5

Dear Bros,

As I have got a lot of enquiry regarding the retrofit of W211 recently while I have just got a Comand APS NTG2.5 for E-Class W211 on hands as well.

Would like to share the photos of the device here for anyone who wants to know more about Comand APS NTG2.5 for E-Class W211 as well as some FAQ here towards the device.

FAQ:

Q1: How many kind of Comand APS for E-Class W211?

A1: There are 2 kinds of Comand APS for E-Class W211. First one delivered between 2004-2008 named as Comand APS NTG1 which is a DVD base navigation system and the navigation drive being stowed inside the truck. Another kind of Comand APS NTG2.5 issued around late 2008-2009 and it's harddisk base (same as the one inside the picture), no need to place a DVD inside the device whenever navigation needed.

Q2: What are the new features of Comand APS NTG2.5?

A2: It has SD slot (Max. 2G) & 4G MP3 Storage at HDD, Bluetooth Telephony, Linguatronic (Need a VCS Button on the Steer Wheel), Harddisk base navigation, 6.5" high resolution display, it's also able to connect backup camera or UCI.

Q3: Does my ride fit for install Comand APS NTG2.5?

A3: Sadly if you ride came with NTG1 Comand or Audio 20 with HK Sound System, the retrofit become more complicated and expensive. Ideally, replacing Audio 20 with Comand APS NTG2.5 is the most cost-effective since you have got most of the additional features but the retrofit cost is the lowest compared against any W211 came with NTG1 or Sound System.

Q4: Is there any Singapore/Malaysia Map available for Comand APS NTG2.5?

A4: Yes, the latest version is 2010.

Q5: What region of DVD playback supported by NTG2.5?

Q5: Some (not all) of the Comand APS NTG2.5 can be coded as code free. In other words, you can watch DVD from any countries.

Q6: What is the maximum capacity SD card supported by NTG2.5?

A6: If the NTG2.5 build in 2009 (very few in the market), the can support max 32G SD Card. However, if the build date before 2009 and there is no "Thief Prevention Security Lock" has been programmed, maximum capacity is 2G since it does not support SDHC.

Q7: Is there engineering mode come with NTG2.5 as same as the engineering mode with NTG4?

A7: Yes, it has engineering mode "Hangup + # + 6" but user could not change the parameter inside. Most of the configuration needed to be done by Star Diagnosis System.

Q8: If my ride came with Comfort-Phone and CD-Changer, can I use it after the retrofit?

A8: No, the Comfort-Phone will be replaced by the Bluetooth Telephony while CD-Changer no longer work as well.

Bro Camber53 has installed many of our rides here especially for W204, W212, C207 & A207. He installed Command NTG 4 on my W212.

IIRC yours is a W211, then you will probably need Ricky to instal for you!

I don't think at this moment, Bro camber53 instal Command for W211 which is Command NTG 2.5.

However U might wanna check with Bro Camber53 again!

Hi Bros, the price largely depends on what the current audio came with your ride at this moment. It's not as simple as installing Comand for W204/W212. We must get the VIN of our ride to estimated a quote. If your ride come with the old generation Comand NTG1 and Harmon Kardon Sound System the whole retrofit becomes more complicated and expensive.

Hi, VIN = the chassis number of your ride like WDD2040494B029481 in total, usually you can find it from a labour at the lower part of the b-pillar at the driver side.

VIN aka Vehicle Identification Number aka Vehicle Chassis Number

Your W211 will probably have numbers like this WDB2110412B249278

Beside in your Vehicle Log Information, it's on a plate located at the driver door side.

From this VIN - Ricky or Camber53 will know what ride and options that came with your car!
