removing and reinstalling sunroof motor

Have any of you guys removed and reinstalled the sunroof motor in a 300CE or a 300E? Inasmuch as the sunroof in my 1989 300CE has stopped working and a local European car specialist told me that the motor is bad (the switch makes a sound but the sunroof does not move), I bought a motor from someone on eBay. A friend of mine helped me remove the old motor, although we ended up taking it apart because we didn't know how else to get the motor off the tube and cable. However, we would rather not take the new motor apart to get the tube and cable through it and in the correct position to make contact with the gear. I have searched everywhere I could think of for an explanation of how to do this, but what sparse instructions I could find on this subject were not very helpful. I hope someone here has done this before and can instruct me.

Hi Juris,

This part of the world very few of us do our own repairs!

We usually send our cars to the local workshops of dealers for repairs.

Maybe you would like to post your Qs on this MB forum,

hopefully one of the guru there can assist U!

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I am no mechanic myself, but I like saving money. I don't know about Singapore, but over here dealer service departments charge outrageous prices for repairs. Independent shops are usually more reasonable; however, if they specialize in Mercs, the cost can still be rather high. Besides, I purchased this car with the intention of having something I could tinker with. For everyday driving, I have a Nissan Xterra SUV (somewhat similar to the X-trail available in Singapore), which does get serviced at a local Nissan dealer.
