Sorry I mean the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Star Diagnostics System (SDS).. The one which service centre will plug in a wire to under your driver's foot well and connect to a computer to check and cancel errors..

This is a CLC thread & this model does not comes with TPMS. Rims got nothing to do with SDS system. So yr concerns to mod to 19" are??

You mentioned that u need to add TPMS is it those after markets device? If yes, just add it in which is stand alone & not hook up to the SDS at all.

Btw what's yr ride?

Hi, I 'll introduce myself. I'm a singaporean in australia now. I bought a CLC 200K here and I thought I want to join a singapore mercedes forum.

I assumed my situation is similar to the singaporean version because my stock rim is identical to the final facelifted W203 17". The stock rims are on staggered 17".

I know this car has built in tpms because I previously had error messages in red that says " Check Tyre Pressure" then - Restart Runflat indicator.

To my understanding, tpms is wirelessly connected to sds, so that means if I change rims, the tpms sensors are gone too; that might lead to a permanent fault popping up on the screen all the time.

Because the sensors and receivers are stock from mercedes, I would assume third parties sensors will not communicate with the car's sds due to difference in frequency. the original ones cost usd$500 excl shipping.

I thought I may ask for some advice here as to how others solved this problem when upgrading their rims. Cheers.

Ok, noted. Didn't know in kangaroo land CLC comes with TPMS. I doubt when u change yr rims the TPMS got to reset. My ex E Cabro comes with TPMS too. I upgrade my rim size from 17" to 18" there are no setting or whatsoever. I might be wrong, anyone here can confirm this?

Where you got the idea that by changing rim size will hv a impact on the TPMS?

Hi, I assumed, because I questioned the dealer when collecting the car. I was curious, In my invoice, it was stated as one of the standard equipment. He said the tpms sensor is a part of the rim, mounted inside. Then again, they may just be bs like C&c.

I dont know too, thats why i wish to ask if anyone has experience? Thanks.

I see, go ahead & swap the rims. I doubt there will be any issue at all. Do post some pics of yr ride & rims.

No issues on my ride just fitted with 19inch staggered travelling above 100kmh.

But profile is very restricted inoder not to have difference in overall tyre size.

mine is on Yoko advan sport

front 225/35/19

back 255/30/19

Hi, I did the wheels today. Tpms popped out but after a reset, its gone. but there are some problems..

My front is on 235/35R19 and my rear is on 265/30r19.

initial drive seems ok, no rubbing issues. but i realised when cornering at a lower speed (say 20kmlh) , a huge metal scrapping sound can be heard loudly and steering can feel resistance too. Parking also the same.

The rims are from my mate's C32. The front is 19X8 and the rear is 19X9.5. They are the lorinser rs8 reps. but interestingly, it states "made in germany" at the back.

Any idea whats wrong?

couple of things might hv gone wrong-

1) Rim size dosent matter. is the rim offset correct? CLC offset shld be 35+.

2) is yr car with lowered spring?

3) is yr suspension new or old or any sign of replacement?

4) if none of the above then get yr fender roll.

p/s the rubbing noise can be heard is with or without passenger & the noise from the front or rear? Try to be more specific on yr car issue else is worst than guessing whether this gal can be bed!!

Hi, the noise is from the front left, and it doesnt matter with or without a passenger.

I dont know if the stock suspension is lowered though. The car has done 15000km so far.

It doesnt feel like its rubbing the fender when the car bounces, it is really metal scrapping sound type.

Your first guess might be right but because I dont know the offset. What happens if the offset is more or less than 35? Thanks.

my advise for u is to swap it back to yr stock rims at once. Go to a tyres shop & seek professional advise. Wrong offset will cause tyre rub against anything under the fender, such as suspension parts or anything that touches the tyre!!

Hi, did a bit of research now it does makes sense that the offset might be wrong. When I changed the rim, my original bolt was too long hence i changed all the bolts to a shorter one. Looks like I should have bought a spacer of maybe 5-10 mm and use my original bolts instead.

Do ya think the shorter bolts now with the 'reduced' offset will cause serious damage ? thanks! :(

hi, I did it at a tyre shop.. seems like that guy is no pro enough... I want to change now also cannot because the shorter bolts needs a "hex" adaptor to engage.

Its exactly the reverse adaptor of my original bolt now. ( the hex part is sunken inside a round circumference, jus the the spanner that we use to remove our original bolts).

I see, is late now at kangaroo land. Do it tml, the rim u got it from yr fren not from the tyres shop? Yr Fren ride C32 is it a sedan or coupe? Which model is that? U need to find out the right offset for yr ride before changing any rims. Remember that the rim size is dosent matter, is the offset!!

Good luck

Nope not for my previous ride. Yrs is it sport edition? Do u need to reset the tyres pressure after each time u pump in air?

yup. my is sport edition. After patching my punture tyres, the warning have gone off so i guess it reset by itself once it sense it's pressure.

My limited knowledge on TPMS:

After you've pumped in the correct tyre pressure, go to the tyres menu and reset the tyre pressure. By doing this, the car will 'remember' what is the correct pressure. (The car system will not know what is the correct tyre pressure, you will have to set it yourself) If the tyre pressure drops drastically (I dunno how much is drastically, maybe > 20%), the error message will appear to inform you that there is a change in tyre pressure.

Assuming that there is a tyre puncture, get it patched up and pump back the correct tyre pressure, then go to the tyre pressure menu again to reset the tyre pressure.

Do this every time your check and pump your tyre pressure.

Alvin ride is only TPMS activated when there is a leak whereas C & E is reset after every pump in. Could this be a different system?

TPMS should work the same way across different models, or even across different makes.

When you pump your tyres, the tyre pressure changed, so the system will light up and inform you that there is a change in tyre pressure. So TPMS will detect both extra air or air leak in the tyres, it works both ways.

As in my last post, after pumping your tyres, reset the tyre pressure in the menu so as to memorise this 'correct' pressure. When the pressure changed (either up or down), the system will prompt you that there is a change in the pressure.

Stock TPMS only prompt you when there is a change, but do not tell you changed by how much and which tyre. Sometimes, the prompt might come too late and your punctured tyres can be real bad (a real big puncture) and damage your rims (only in extreme cases though). If you wanna know the exact tyre pressure on each tyre, invest in an aftermarket system something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TPMS-Wireless-Tire-Pressure-Monitoring-System-car-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2eb43cc389QQitemZ200592376713QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Most of the tyre shops will have something like this in stock. Damage should be about $300-400 if get locally.

I still think your previous CLC should have this, maybe your bak chew ta stamp didn't see on your menu. Check with DarkAvenger whether he has it on his ride or not lor...

The aftermarket device is good if you drive around a lot and going up north too, small investment for peace of mind. No need GB la, just get it from LS or Hurry lor, they should have them. If you ebay it later need to get them to install also LPPL lor...

Left only the engine & four tyres & rims. Now I know why the air con kaput within a year.
