Aircon problem on W204 (C180 1.6)

I have noticed that if I did not drive my car for say more than 20 hours, and when I drive and turn on the aircon, only normal air comes out from the vent. It is only after 3 - 5 mins, then the cold air comes in. Is it normal? I have experienced it a couple of times since I collect my ride 2 months back.

Perhaps the air con compressor is warming up??

some bros dont turn on the a/c until the engine gets warmer.

As long got air coming out then it should be fine. :cheer2:

btw, after long hrs of parking, dont u find ur ride roars when u start d engine? :music:

Is it possible that you guys had the aircon turned on. that roaring seems to be aircon compressor starting up before engine ignition.

i heard it from my dad's w211 but not my w204 cos he doesn't off his aircon at all.

can try to practice turning aircon off before shutting off engine. then when you start off the next day, turn on engine, let it warm up a bit before turning back on the air con. it should reduce the cool air coming in timing and engine noise might as well cover up the air con compressor noise.

check out how aircon work:

http://www.ehow.com/how-does_5014757_air-conditioning-compressor-work.html

the gas within the system should pump faster when car batt got extra electrical boost from alternater than just running on standalone batt power.

and that roaring noise i suspect could be aircon compressor trying to pressurize the system, which can be very obvious when there's no other loud noise like engine noise to cover it up.

Shutting off the air con before the engine is an old school method. I m surprise till now many of u guys are still practising it. I guess this is kind of the old practise that never be changed. Like engine run in & oil change. New conti engine does not require to run in for brandnew & oil change after 10,000 km or more. My new ride require no engine run-in & oil change only after 25,000 km. I got shock but I learn to accept new changes as I m sure the makers wouldn't want to "fail to plan or plan to fail" :).

IMHO,

In our kind of weather - heat & humidity - tends to breakdown the engine oil easier.

What may last in ang moh land may not last as long here....ummm!!!.....better be safe than be sorry.....hehehehe!

I sipeh kiasu one - though I did not do the smlc old school practice of 1st 500km or 1K km oil change - I always keep to my oil change every 6 mths.

Changing oil more often mean more $$$ as compare to the cost of our cars $$$....hehehe!
