Hi

Noticed my 5 yr old W203 is very noisy now ..

can hear engine noise ( esp at higher rpm) and tyre wheels noise at fast speeds.

any recommendations on how / where to reduce the noise ?

IMHO

1. Choose a set of "low noise tyres" - If U are not on low profile tyres - try Michelin Primacy range of tyres. If U are on low profiles, then I would suggest U use Bridgestone Touranza GR90

2. You can do sound proofing of your 2 front doors - that helps too before considering sound proofing of other areas in your car. I did that on my previous W203 front doors and the results were significantly better.

Last but not least - why it's noisy now & not earlier - due to tyres? due to engine noise eg. timing chain, water pump bearing, etc or it';s just the whining of the supercharger?

If you really wanna reduce road noise, I'd suggest doing the wheel arch and firewall 1st.

I had tried to sp my previous civic fd2, spending $2K on dynamat. All doors, undercarriage, roof, boot were done. Not much effect.... Only can feel that bass is tighter and door is heavier....and yes, when it rains the roof is damn quiet...

Thanks for advice. where can I do sound proofing of 2 front doors ? It's a second hand car and I noticed my car is more 'noisy' compared to other W203.

Most audio shop will provide soundproofing services. For Dynamat, it's Audioedge. For my W203, I went to Wee Heng at Eunos, as they are more familiar with Contis. I only did my roof, which to me is the most crucial...(noisy when raining)

As for wheel arch and firewall, try googling.

Wheel arch or wheel well is the area where each of your wheel runs.

Firewall is the wall separating the car interior and the engine compartment

Bro snappy recommendation of Wee Heng which is same as AutoSpritze @ 115 Eunos Ave 3.

Look for Ah Boon than Boz Ah Wee - say Unker Seah from Batam refers U!

Bro CKlasse is right too about age of car & door rubber seals as probable culprit of noise.

imho

Increase noise are mainly from -

1. Tyre noise - mileage & types

2. Doors/Windows rubber seal - age - lost some noise sealing effectiveness

Firewall & wheel arch same as door sound proofing are further improvements over factory insulation. Not easy to do a complete job on firewall unless U wanna take out your whoile front console & dash board.

Best place is too start on the 2 front doors.

Ah Boon of Wee Heng can advise & quote U what sound proofing they can do for U.

Not necessary to do the whole car - U can start with the front 2 doors, maybe even wheel arch or even the boot area depending on your budget.

Just came from there an hour ago......hehehehe! :becky:

Anyone know how much it cost to sound proof the roof? When it rains i felt that I am in an old zinc roof Atap house ... I cant even hear my fart

I spent $400 on the roof, about a day's job. Now when it rains, my windscreen is the noisiest...

If you cannot find your tyre size replacement under the Michelin Premacy range, likely your tyres are considered as "low profile" imho anything under series 50 tyres.

Just decided to change to Michelin primacy hp with 225/45

Any issue if I am currently am using staggered 245 back and 225 front but changing to all 225 now ? Thinking in terms of practicality as can easily do wheel rotation next time

Yes noise is drastically reduced after changing. Thks for the recommendation though bit pricey at $360 each. But can still hear Kompressor engine roar at high rpm. May need check On that firewall

Cannot runaway SC noise on high rpm!

It's in the gene....hahaha!

Even 5 yrs with W203 & 1 yr with FL W211, I still cannot get use

to the SC whining @ high rev!

Sound proof firewall & front bonnet!
