W202 Aircon problem

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum! Hope you can shed some light on a problem with my 1995 C280 (W202).

I've been having problems with my aircon (manual temp. thumbwheels, no climate control). The aircon blower speed switch is no longer working, the fan speed is always either off or very slow, even with the fan speed on 5 and both thumbwheels turned to blue (coldest). I went to a Merc specialist workshop in the West, and they said the aircon panel switch and blower motor sensor need to be changed - parts $1100, labour $500 = $1600! I nearly fainted.

I'm considering my options now, which are:

1. Get another quote from aircon specialist

2. Get another quote from another Merc specialist

What do you think? Any recommendations for a good workshop? Thanks for reading!
