SBC warranty for pre FL w211

I have just encounter a break warning sign on my w211 (05 model), send to C&C for check and was told it was the SBC pump problem. Fortunately, the advisor told me he would appeal to Germany to have it under warranty but I still have go folk out $600 + + for the labour charge and the replacement of brake fluid.

I thought there is a recall sometime back for the SBC problems and if they acknowledge that it is the manufacture fault, they should cover the labour cost as well ?

Anybody got similar experience ?

Brake mechanism do not have a limited warranty by manufacturer, it's lifetime warranty.

if you bring to MBM they will tell you no warranty and quoted me $2800 to replace and give me 3 months warranty only for the replaced parts. Asked them if 4th month spoilt again how, they say too bad

Lucky i brought mine to C&C and end up dignosed it's software issue only and charged me $300

I guess it's normal for them to charge labour, although the parts comes free under lifetime warranty. You may want to check if your car is the recalled batch first, if yes maybe still can argue to waive off the labour

Hi brother, whether warrenty or not, it is advisable to replace it. It happened to my 2004 W211 last year (2010), mine was a PI car, first time problem, C&C charged me $7++ to replace, second time, $135.

SBC problem can be scary, if not repair you could lose brake completely while driving, luckily I was quick to switch to low gear to use engine breaking to bring the car to stop.

I asked the service adviser whether has anyone ever been rejected for warranty claim? was told so far never, but they must get approval from Germany.

First time was only the warning signal and was able to drive for few weeks without any difference in breaking, finally decided to get it fixed. Second time was the scary one, it break just failed suddently while driving on PIE, the whole display turned red and totally no breaking power at all.

If that happen to you, the only way is to bring the car to stop safely on road side by shifting to lower gears until very very slow, then use the foot break to stop the car completely.

When the SBC fails, there is a mechanical backup. The backup is very weak, so best is to downshift, coast slowly, and keep pumping the brake pedal as well as use the parking or emergency brake.

Actually I didn't asked, I assume it was a replacement, because it went through the same process of seeking Germany for approval before proceeding and I had to leave the car in the workshop for 3 days again.

Contrary to the above advise, in the event that the SBC fail, DO NOT keep pumping the brake. Keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal. This is to allow the pressure in the backup brake system to build up. Repeated pumping of the brake will prevent the backup brake from working. Do not use the parking/emergency brake too as this may cause you to lose control of your vehicle through locking up of the wheels.

2005 W211 E-class

Got this message on my display this morning, Service brake- visit workshop.

Sent my car down to my regular independent workshop, diagnostic Indicates few error codes related to the infamous SBC pump issue.

Will need to check with C&C next week if covered under warranty, or have to fork out 2K plus to get it resolved.
