recommendation of springs

Really??? Hmm... I thought that the overall diameter of the wheel and the tyre varies with the specifications one can determine from the height of the tyres' sidewall? Like, for example, there will be a noted difference in the height of a tyre with sidewall 50 as compared to 40. All else being equal. And this will show up in how big/small the fender gap will be. Which also brings me to my next point that if one upgrades/downgrades the rims/tyres, there will be a differential in terms of the reading on the speedometer and the real speed that the car is travelling.

With regards to the anti-sway bars, I knew that I will not be changing to the H&R springs nor will I be going on coilovers. And I do know for a fact that anti-sway bars are a cheaper alternative to reducing the roll when doing quick exits out of corners, doing long bends into / out of expressways. I do not drive this car like a mad man but I do want added dexterity translating from the car if/when there is an occasion that requires it. So, if I were to skip the anti-sway bars, will the H&R springs do the trick? I'm just worried that with the 19s now, lowering the car might do more harm than good? Lao jiaos please advise. :)

The fender gap thingy tml you ask Raymond to explains to you in details. Yes speedometer will affected but nowadays nobody seems to be bothered!!!

Go and grab the sway bars if you thinks its helps.

Bro, any rubbing after you lowered? How about when doing full locks? I am quite concerned that if I lower, there will be such problems. Anyway, I think the gap is smaller on 19s as compared to 18s. But we'll see later when I get them installed. Now, I'm thinking if I should go staggered or not since I've already spent the money!!! Argh.

Hi Chiaster,

if it is the right off-set it should not rub at all..(whether 18 or 19)

cheers

Ok, got the wheels on the car already. 3 fingers gap!!! Seems like I'll have to put on the H&R springs!!! Urgh.

Hi Chiaster,

if you use lowering spring i'm afraid your ride might be bumpy at times...

use coilover better (if budget allows): KW coilover

cheers

Ok guys! I decided that I would do without the coilovers for now and just go for the springs instead. Spent too much on the rims and tyres already! :( So, thanks to bro newmerc and bro toybox, I got my set of H&R sport springs today! Couldn't stand the height of the car after fitting on the 19s yesterday. I felt like I was driving an SUV!!! Urgh. Had to lower the car so got the springs from benzline, installed it at race technologies and also did the alignment there. Whole process took about 3 hours!!! Long wait but at least the job was done properly. So now, the car sits nicely lowered! :) 1 finger gap on the front fenders and 2 fingers on the rear fenders. "That's how a Merc should look like!" said bro newmerc. And boy, does the car's stance look good now!!! :) It doesn't stop here though. After driving the car for about 30clicks here and there (head back to the office, fetch the missus, have dinner, go home), the handling of the car just went up by LOTS!!! Car feels very planted now. No excessive 'squatting' while pulling off from standstill. Not much 'dipping' while coming to a halt. Entering and exiting corners with much more stability and confidence than before. Roll has also decreased by LOTS. Simply put, the ride's FANTASTIC. :) I've had previous experience with coilovers before on Japanese cars and while the springs can't compare in terms of precision handling and all that, it makes up for it with a reasonable level of comfort that you don't lose much from the stock setting. The H&R sport springs will be perfect for you if you don't drive the car like a mad man ALL THE TIME, if you still want to maintain a decent level of ride comfort for yourself and your passengers, if you ocassionally want quicker response in terms of entry/exit, if you don't want to slide in your seat so much when cornering, if you don't demand race-type handling on your stock engine. I have no regrets with this purchase absolutely. Stay tuned for pictures when I get the car washed, be blessed with sunny weather and find a good spot for an amateur iPhone/blackberry shoot. Cheers, folks. :)

Hi bro where did you go for the wheel alingment ?

Installation and alignment was done at Racing Technologies Exhaust Systems. It's at Paya Ubi and it used to be the old Race Tech.

Got quoted at 420 for the springs alone. You need to purchase it and then bring it over to RTES for installation and alignment. The former costs 150 while the latter costs 50.
