Pardon me, is the number plate retained or on an existing vehicle now? If it's retained, I'm afraid you have to find a vehicle to place the no. plate before transferring out.

Hello Snappy,

Thank you for pointing this out.

There is a standard industry process to do this using a 'scrap car'.

Ya no need worry, i do know that there is dealer who help to do the transfering but it will cost you at least $800.

But cost of this vrn will be.....

even if you are giving this nos FOC, by taking back your retain fee of $1300 + $800 = $2100 minimum.

If this vrn going to a used car ..... + another $1300 = $3400 !

Hello 9339 et al.

Here are more details of the transactions from what I understand. This is

for the benefit of those who are buying / selling number plates.

Assume a 'scrap car' is being used for all transfers as the 'scrap car' has a

low transfer fee. Another reason is that if the owner's car is used for the transfer,

the car's resale value might be affected.

1. Independent dealer transfers a 'scrap car' to the seller of the number plate.

(About $100 or less depending on the 'scrap car'.)

2. Retained number is transferred to the 'scrap car'.

(Additional $1,200 if the car number was retained for $100 previously.)

3. Transfer the 'scrap car' (with the desired number) to the buyer of the number plate.

(About $100 or less depending on the 'scrap car'.)

4. Buyer retains the number ($100) and a new number is generated for the 'scrap car'.

5. If the number is to be put on a new car, inform the car sales person before the new car

registration (the cost is already factored in the new car purchase).

If the number is to be put on an existing car, add $1,200.

6. Transfer the 'scrap car' back to the dealer.

(About $100 or less depending on the 'scrap car'.)

Note: It appears to be a lot of transactions but they are done by a dealer who owns the 'scrap car'.

In summary:

1. For the transfer of a number plate to an existing car, the transfer fees are

$1,200 + $1300 + 3 transfers (assume $300 as it depends on the value

of the 'scrap car') + dealer fees (assume $500-$600).

2. For the transfer of a number plate to a new car, the transfer fees are

$1,200 + $100 + 3 transfers (assume $300 as it depends on the value

of the 'scrap car') + dealer fees (assume $500-$600).

Just for the record, the dealer normally quotes a single fee e.g. $800

for his services and the mentioned 3 transfers of the 'scrap car'.

If there is any point which needs to be added, please feel free to do so.

BTW, I am just a normal individual who managed to find out about these

kinds of transactions because of my recent interest to sell a car plate number.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Hello all,

Thank you for all the enquiries.

The common concern that I notice is the LTA transfer fees.

I have decided to let go of this number plate if there is an offer of at least

SGD $3,300 excluding transfer fees. It would be more cost effective if you

are registering a new car. Note that it will go to the highest bidder by the

end of next week (14 November 2010).

Please SMS me at 9756 9677 if you are interested. Thanks.

Hello to those who SMSed,

Thank you for your interest in the number plate and those offering above the

starting bid of 3.3K (excluding transfer fees).

The bidding exercise will end tomorrow at 6PM.

A common question is with regard to the transfer fees. Here's the summary:

o For an existing car, the transfer fees are 3.3K.

o For a new car (i.e. a car which is going to be registered), the transfer fees are 2.1K.

Note that the transfer fees are inclusive of the 800 charge by an independent car dealer

who will be using a 'scrap car' for the number transfer.

Cheers.
