Was quoted $700 for battery at CnC. Any other alternatives I can consider?

BTW what is the expected lifespan for a battery?

TIA:) !

If U are an AA member if not get a friend or relative who's an AA member and call for battery assistance.

They will replace it with brand Hoppecke Battery- German

If not go to tyre shop or Autobacs get Varta Battery - German too

Not cheap but imho they are good batteries!

Meaning U dun get premature battery death from internal shorting or poor cycle life (short battery life due to lesser charge & discharge cycles).

Check your battery to see what's the cyrrent battery capacity in terms of

AH (Ampere Hour)

I have never paid for a battery that cost me more than $250, generally, battery could last 1.5~2.5 depending on luck.

Battery life at times can be unpredictable evn the manufacturer themselves due mainly to:

1) manufacturing defect - causing internal soft short circuit between the plates

2) average battery cycle life (The number of times when charge & discharge

3) The user or owner of the car adding "lots" of devices (eg car audio) and causing the battery to charge & discharge more often.

The primary job of the battery is just to crank the engine and start it.

After engine gets started, the alternator will take over to supply the necessary current to run the car electrical system and devices.

The both brand of batteries I've recommended will cost U about $200+.

Cheers!

I got mine changed this year... after 4 years of use. I replaced it in CnC, cost me a bomb cos I replace both batteries. For W211 there are 2 battery, the bigger one in the boot (main battery) and the backup / electrical (secondary battery) in the engine compartment.

I replace both for $1200++ if I remember correctly. If you replace it outside, I think the main battery cost around $400+ to $600+ or so... the secondary battery cost around $200+. So technically you still save.

Cheers

Just replaced my battery through AA using Hoppecke brand in April 2011, left the car parked for 5 days and today car is totally dead, cannot even open the door with remote or keyless entry, had to use manual key to open the doors and boot.

Called AA down, the technician checked battery...voltage was low, jump started the car and let it run for a while to charge the battery, then turned off the engine. After a minute, cranked the engine and of course it started; he then goes on to claim there's nothing wrong with the battery (because it can be charged and able to start car on it's own) and refuses replacement under the battery's 15 month warranty, he goes on to claim that it's "impossible" for the battery to be faulty, there must be some fault with the car's electrical system, draining the battery, but cannot be more specific. I had just serviced my 3yr old car in June with CnC, no problems reported.

Have not checked with CnC yet, but dread it's may develop into a finger pointing contest, with me being a football, kicked back and forth between AA and CnC...:frusty:

Bro,

Just go to those normal Tyre & Air-Con shop for Battery change will do.

They should be Cheaper compared to those So Called Branded Vendors.

Understand from my Mechanic the Stock battery on our W211 is only 90amp.

I got mine Upgraded to 100Amp for the Main Battery & The Battery for ECU @ $480 in total.

It comes with 1 year Warranty.

Cnc had been the most unreasonable in this aspect, charging 1200 for 2 batteries and supply typical Acid refill ones. not even the maintenance free ones. what is worst is that if you look at the merc replacement you will find the OEM logo ha ha. anyway, I got the Amaron Pro one , maintenance free, 200+ will last 3 -4 years so far no problems at all. it is advisible 100 amp though. The ones with Audio20 is 90 Amp however, if you have Command 100 Amp is a must!

IMHO

COMAND is no different to Audio 20 with regards to your car battery!

Your car battery main "duty" is to crank your starter motor to start your engine.

Once the engine is started, the alternator takes over to supply current to your car electrical system. The battery will be charged & ready for the next time U start your car.

Cheaper batteries doesn't mean it will last as long as "well known brands"

Very battery has a cycle life meaning how many cycles it has before it capacity starts to go down to end of life.

I cycle means 1 full charge & 1 full discharge of the battery.

A daily example of a handphone battery where the original ones which cost an arm & leg last a long time.

Whereas a cheaper one usually dun seem to last as long as the OEM ones on a full charge!

Yes sir! provided you dont turn on your Command with the engine off, waiting to pick up your wife and kids! other than that its no diff, I guess...

Hey, need to ask a "silly question"... If I need to jumpstart a 211.... Is it the battery at the boot or in front? Haha

Jumpstart due to not driving for too long....

Thanks

Batt is behind but you jumpstart from the front. Look for a red cover to slide open & you will see a metal plate for the the red jumpstart cable to clip on (positive+ve). The black cable must be clipped to a earth bolt.

Thanks ! Found the cause of the problem' date=' it is due to the starter failure. Replaced the starter and it's ok now[/quote']

Dunno about nowadays technology!

In "old times" when starter motor failed, the frenly mechanic just changed the starter motor carbon brushes.

Maybe now have to change the whole starter motor ;)

OK .... my battery/ies hitting 4+ years now ....at last service (not CnC), specifically mentioned to mechanic. He apparently tested it and said still in good condition :o

I have never had a battery lasting more than 2+ years before .....does Mercs batteries really last this long?

I FINALLY replaced the OEM battery this year. Nearly 6 years OLD.

The electronics started behaving weird. Doors not locking automatically after driving off and side mirrors not folding in on locking, and then if fold in, not folding out again. After change of battery, everything GOOD :)

Just to share for my PRE FL W211 I change the small battery in front at about 6 years after the car "SBC" won't work because of low power . and when the mechanics tested the rear big battery which is used to charge the car  ..it is still in good condition but I still change it

Mine was replaced at slightly more than 4 yr mark.. when I got a tyre blown and AA came and saw my 4 yr old battery and asked me dun risk. better change.
