Hi All,

Was wondering if I should keep my 17" or upgrade to 18"? I know lots of this is based on personal preference. Question is, will it make the car more harsh by upgrading it to 18"?

Appreciate feedback from folks who have upgraded.

Cheers!

Purpose is to improve the handling, why not?

Upgrading from 17" to 18"

Pros:

- improved handling as the tyre profile is usually lower to maintain overall rolling diameter and thus less wall flexing when you push it harder in corners

- improved traction due to wider foot prints

- more stable at higher speed

- increased steering weight (good for some)

- looks much nicer

Cons:

- ride is slight harsher comparitively due to shorter and stiffer sidewalls

- slightly more road noise

- more expensive tyres

- more likely to tramline on uneven surfaces

- may be slightly more likely to aquaplane if your tyres are not well designed

- acceleration from stand still will be affected if you go cheap and get those heavy 18" cast ones as it will increase your rolling inertia

- the heavier rims and tyres will contribute more to unsprung weight and thus affect how "nimble" your suspension can response to changing road condition.

There you go...:becky:

Is the original 18" AMG rims heavier or replicas 18" rims heavier?

Its my 1st conti ride so i'm not sure if heavier rims means stronger integrity for a 1.5 ton C200K.

Any bros have lobang for 2nd hand C63 AMG 5 spoke rims?

Thanks...:bounce:

In general comparing Original with the EXACT replicas, the replicas tends to be heavier. Heavier by how much varies depending on alot of factor like rims design and the material used

1.5ton is average weight for all cars in the compact executive segment plus minus 100kg.

Heavier rims does not equal stronger.period.

If your budget allows, go for fully forged rims...strong...light...performance guranteed... but may not have the design you like:bounce:

Sounds good! I am considering going from 17" to 19" as well, keeping the stock suspension. Will you both be so kind as to share the specifications of your rims and tyres? I am hoping that you both have them nicely flushed with your fenders! That will definitely look NICE. :)

There will be differences (law of physics is a constant)....but how much of it is felt by the driver depends very much on how sensitive he is to these changes as well as how the brain over-ride the negative to amplify the positive.

for eg. some hiong drivers say KW 2 coilover is still too soft for them while a more relaxed driver complain that eibach prokit makes their ride uncomfortable.

My point being, for newbies to mods, gather all inputs --> dissect out the objective vs subjective components ---> make your decision based on sum of objective and your own driving style/requirements.

Yes,my nicely flushed w the fenders.I'm using Yokohama Advan Sport 225/35/19 on my Breyton rims.Something different!:becky:

Some pictures, perhaps? :)

Also, what are the specifications of your rims?

19" x 8jj?

19" x 8.5jj?

19" x 9jj?

I'm assuming you're not running on staggered (rear wider than front) settings?

What is the offset of your rims?
