Hi Peeps,

looking to get my first MB, but cant afford a new one given the current COE

interested looking for a w203 but abit confused on the diff between c180 and c200. believed both are running the same engine, but C200 should be slightier more powerful in terms of HP and NM?

what the other differences?

lastly what are the known issues that i should lookout for?

Thanks

IIRC @ least the diff. W203 (2003/2004) M271 engine

a) C200 come in avantgarde

B) C200 lower suspension

c) C200 Full Front Leather seat

d) C200 20+ hp & more Nm

e) C200 Full Memory Seats

Get a W203 C200....

on top of what Unker had listed, goes for the 2004/2005 C200 which will cost you less than $65K.....

minimun loss as paper value should already at $ $45k + Body $8K est....

Scrap it if COE pricing fall back to <$20K, than buy a new car.

Or goes for your nick....CLK230

agreed, go for c200.

(over the c180)

enough power for some fun

useful parktronic (front AND back parking sensors)

true 2 zone aircon (independent air flow if i not mistaken)

wanted to sell my c180 to get a c200 that time. ended up with a w211. lol!

Hi Unker, how is the ride road handling when comparing the W203 and W211? Coz I quite like the handling of my current W203 C200 but itchy backside wanted to change to a w211.

Thanks!

If budget permits go for FL W211 avantgarde which date of manufacture IIRC is fromJune or July 2006.

IIRC Avantgarde has the following extras:-

1) Xenon with Auto-levelling

2) LED Brake lamps

3) Lower suspension

4) Birdeye Maple wood

5) Glossy Black Front grill

6) 17" Alloy Rims

7) Blue tint Windows

8) White Meter Display

Pro

Better handling than the W203.

More bhp (184hp)

Bigger & Spacious - Passenger & Boot

2008 Audio 20 has color screen

keyless

Tilting left parking mirror

Quicker on acceleration - Think on paper nia:becky:

Con

Bigger & Heavier - FC slightly worse off

Thanks Unker.

Must really go and test drive 1 to feel the diff :). Yeah... looking for the FL (with keyless go) but not the Avantgarde as the added features do not appeal to me.

One thing which puzzle me is that the tilting left parking mirror is already available in my end 2005 c200. Does that means that the c180 W203 does not have it?

Cheers!

yeah, good call!

my w211 elegance looks like an AVGT from outside. with the front grill with the double clasped fog light. i think from 2007 on, the fog light design follows AVGT.

and, i got my 2nd favourite combi, beige on maple wood-elegance. (1st being brown with birch wood-AVGT).

and, you will enjoy the keyless-go like mad, you really will do.

although, the acceleration is not as good as the c180, certainly not as good as the c200. handling-wse, i feel is not as good. and the size of it! you can no longer squeeze through anything. not between 2 cars on the road, not in a tight alley. you will baby it like mad.

go for it! when coe drops, sell it and get an used w212.

good luck!

Thanks bro, that is my main worry. Coz somebody ever tell me (is it Randy?) that the C class ride is quite similar to the SLK which IMO is quite agile and firm. Actually still eyeing for a FL NGT but now confuse by my own bro to take a 2005 S280/S350 instead. What do you think? Dep about the same or lower than the FL E. Only prob is I don't quite like the 2005 S look but features wise is fantastic.

Cheers!

i will be really glad for you if you managed to secure a w211 ngt fl - cheaply. there was this time I eyed one w211, $90K for '07, ngt, 80k mileage. dirt cheap. too bad i was 10 mins late. still kicking myself for not going earlier.

unfortunately, the ngts now are way way over priced. cost as much as the normal elegance while its paper value is way lower. nvm, just ranting.

i agree with you on the 2005 S looks. but! i saw this s class (not w221, is w220), with black body, black interior, with updated sports 18" rims, it looks fantastic. polish the headlamps so it doesn't look yellowish and you're set man.

see this video

in any case, 2005 s class value ain't gonna drop much (imho), since it is out of warranty, parf bottoming out. should be similar or slightly lower than the w211. not sure though, you should really do the math!

last bit, personal opinion, i would still go for the w211, the interior seems... just nicer. feature wise the w220 trumps. hard choices, hard choices indeed...

Yeah Bro... we talk about the 89K NGT previously, I too missed it by a couple of hours.

Your youtube link really sway me more towards the old S class now. Thanks for the great link.

Next will be my CO who is against me changing out my current ride.

Cheers!

haha... wait! one last bit you have to bear with before you decide on the S class.

you will have to tahan the erm, less quality build of the w220.

compare the w220 and the w211 (about the same era), the w211 just feels a bit more well built. the w203 (about the same era too) is somewhere in between i guess.

Saw a few w220 yesterday. Have to agree that the build quality is not that good. Paint work is very poor in merc standard. Only the ride comfort and V6 engine is good. Think I will hold my gun for now. Maybe see if I can swap out my CO car to some other car instead of my C200.

Cheers!

after reading the comparo, between w203 and w211 ngt pre fl, i think it makes more sense to get the 211, given the higher omv value (rebates after coe, attractive!) and slightly cheaper compared to w203 too.

hence is it better to get the w211?

the interior looks better too power also slightly better too?

but handling will be compromised, so how?

which to consider?

thanks

haha...

just get the w211. forget about the slightly worst of handling. it is better in so many ways!

-comfort

-prestige looks (the w203 looks a bit dated, w211 not yet)

-awesome boot + passenger space

-better interior

Like what Bro bbwannabe had said - go for the W211.

I changed from a MY2004 W203 to a MY2007 FL W211.

IMHO the W211 handles much better when going thru bends.

IMHO try to consider at least the E240 as I feel the E200 Kompressor is lacking in power and noisy (apologies - just my opinion). The price difference should not be great. Only diff is the road tax which you pay once a year nia but get better overall driving experience
