NGT E200 Died on me - Engine Knocking

Hi Guys...

I had a weird and unsettling experience with my 2006 model lately.

I hope it has nothing to do with the impending 7th Lunar Month.

I was driving on cruise mode 70km/h @ KPE and exited Sims Dr on CNG mode.

Upon reaching Guillemard Rd I accelerated to 90 to overtake some lorries, the

RPM was ok, about 2-3000.

I slowed down and experienced some incongruencies in transmission. If it were a manual vehicle, it would have felt like slowing down in a higher gear (or an incorrect gear); then all of a sudden,

the engine started to knock.

The Engine light showed up. I was in total shock as this is an E200 '06 model and its not supposed to do this especially after I just did a full servicing in June. I slowed down, pulled over and called for Tow. No other special signs except I was low on petrol( which is OK as it was NGT so it can go pure CNG).

Later at the workshop, the engine light disappeared. There was no problems whatsoever with transmission, and the mechanics( the guys who warranty my baby for 2 yrs ) could find no fault in gear box or fuel injection. So it wasn't a transmission problem. The only fix they gave it was a re-adaptation of the CNG processor. ( I dunno what it means.)

Anyways, who has the real answer to this riddle?

Appreciative- a puzzled NGTE200KEN:Cry:

hi, my family also has a 2006 e200 ngt. until recently, the car didn't allow us to switch to CNG. C&C quoted 3k+ to fix the switch. Btw, how did u notice knocking?

Hi bro

the engine basically knocked and stalled.

There was an empty fuel light for two days

but my CNG was full. Never do full CNG. My

warranty dealer towed it and repaired for free

no further issues now. They re adapted the cng

and told me to pump 1/4 tank min petrol . In my

opinion you are being misqouted, my 2 yr warranty

is 1200. Pm me or SMS me 92988759

hi guys,

just to check if the paper value for NGT models are calculated the same way as petrol driven models? secondly, any potential problems for the e200ngt as i m currently considering it.

Yup Hi

You are speaking to one.

15K off paper value. Px should reflect this.

Potential problem is obviously the CNG portion, occassionally it gives up on you so you have to re-learn the system.

Also never drive it on an empty petrol/ full CNG portion mix. You need at least 25% petrol to function.Well, apart for all its necessary evils, CNG works better for forced induction, which gives you that kicker when you rev the turbocharged engine above 4,000RPM. It's supposed to be 165 horses but with the turbocharged and FI it performs slightly below a 200 horse capacity-I suppose?

Get a 3-5yr warranty if you get this at 2nd hand- You're gonna need it for the CNG system- it's factory-fitted, near perfect , but not perfect. I re-learned my system 3-4 times.

It stalls when the temp is too cool, <80 deg after I don't drive it for a few says.It has problems on the start up- pretty harmless- but you may need some patience and turn the key twice. That's about it. Like what we all say about marriage- it sucks, but its still a nice-looking ride and does you some good from time to time.:music:

thks bro for the info.

so do u mean that if the car OMV is 57k, then after 10yrs deregisteration, the paper value is ( 57k x 1.1 x 0.55 ) - 15k = $19485 ?

secondly, i heard that C&C only bring in NGT model after 2006, so all NGT before dec 2006 is from PI?

lastly, any news for the coming CNG tax in 2012?

Hi i just bought a used w211 '06 cng... where do i get extended warranty from?

from my experience after driving a cng cefiro and a cng mondeo... car usually starts with petrol and then changes to gas when operating temperature is high enuf. As for car stalling in kickdown.. it happes cos gas cant react as fast as petrol so ecu gets "hanged". shut down, restart and move on

Dude,

thanks for the enlightenment.

I got mine from Khang's auto and you can google them.

They are credible and thus far very responsible in their warranty cover.

Look for Raymond the boss. Their scale is big and the workshop is like a

military hanger. Before warranty they will have to inspect your car first.

1,200 for 2 yrs.( this is my personal opinion and not an ad, man)

yeah 19 K.

I have not seen NGT b4 06. So if you have seen , it must be PI and you can tell as they do not have COMAND GPS.

http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/motoring_vo_tax_diesel.htm

"CNG cars, CNG taxis, Bi-fuel (CNG/Petrol) cars and Bi-fuel (CNG/Petrol) taxis are exempted from special tax until 31 December 2011. From 1 January 2012, these vehicles will no longer be subjected to special tax."

Means forever no tax lah, ha ha ha

somehow the e200ngt going for about 75k+ for mid 06 models on sgcarmart. the recent models was sold pretty fast even with high mileage ~ 140k km

if about 68k, would be good buy.

i didn't like this place

i used to drive a toyota picnic and has some noise in transmission, which i later found that 80% of this model have the same problem due to manufacturer design.

i brought the car there initially and the boss told me either i pay 3K to get the whole gear box overhauled or $400+ to try my luck to change all ATF and filter. I did the latter and well, the same noise is still there. He then try to keep pushing me his insurance package of 1K for 2 yrs, telling me i better buy else if the noise gets louder, my repair cost will be terrible. I walked away and i continue to drive my car for next 3 yrs with no problem.

Later i dropped by another gear specialist workshop and he was telling me by no way will the noise ever disappear by changing ATF oil and filter. He say just drive, nothing will happen. That seems true.

tried bargaiing more than the 72k but dealer was adamant and others were selling for alot higher at the time of purchse of my car... mileage is not a concern for me cos 140k km is barely 100,000 miles and these cars can do high mileage... but thanks for the tip.. next time.. will keep ear to the ground more ...
