Have anyone ever replaced the side mirror ( just the mirror ) on their pre FL W211 E Class? Where to get the part locally and can it be DIY or need to go to a workshop.

I have replaced my right side mirror before. for W211(before facelift model) it is very simple to replace, I did it through outside work shop, I beleive you should be able to buy it from car spare parts stores.

The whole mirror assembly is make up of 3 parts, the outer casing, the mirror mechanism and the mirror itself, if you flip down the mirror (close the mirror to the body) you will see 3 screws, just unscrew them the whole mirror will come out from the body and you need to unplug the wire that is connecting the Mirror to the car, the whole mirror assembly is removed.

Next to remove the mirror machenism from the outer casing, then you can also detach the piece of mirror. If for replacing outer casing, you need to send to paint shop to get it to your car body color, the other 2 items can just buy from the shop and fit the mirror back the reversed way.

It is very easy and no risk at all.
