engine ping after ecu re-map

engine started pinging during low acceleration or uphill after engine re-mapped. tried using octane booster, not the stp type, situation improved, but not sustainable as booster is way more expensive than petrol. thinking of either restoring the stock map or go the extreme, adding better intercooler, intercooler pump, change spark plug to colder ones, etc.

any suggestion?:bounce:

Can you adv which model ? that you are referring ?

What parameter in the ECU remap was done ?

From my understanding, most remap actually adjust one or all the below data :

a) advance

B) throttle response (similar to sprint-booster)

c) fueling

My guess your remap is just an upload of a new map on to the existing data......no road tuning or dyno was done ?

*are you using different grade of petrol now ; as compare to during the tuning ?

you re right, only upload a set of pre-determined data without road tuning or dyno. it is a 211 e280. any local tuner can recommend? petrol is always 98 castrol.

From my understanding..... depending which data use..... if its from Jap source.... petrol minimum 100 octance will be needed.

For most tuner in Europe are mainly limiting to road use petrol of 95 - 98.

BUT like human..... no 2 similar engine are the same.... using a common data for all is just like treating all types of cough with 1 type of medicine.

In my opinion , in your case better have it retune (road tune or on dyno) or check on the causes of the "pinking".

However its should be safe in the short term due to the knock sensor retarding the timing when pinking. But constant pinking may have the ECU revert to "limp home" mode.

Note that it is always best to have it dyno tune with full load to avoid pinking again in certain power range.

This may be your most expensive "data download" !

*can i ask who did the ECU retune ? Harmony AMK ?

i noticed pinging not obvious during night driving, i suppose cooler air, so is there any recommended upgrade to cool the air down? bigger intercooler? intercooler pump upgrade?
