1989 Manual W124:Buy or Not to buy.

Hey guys.my brother's friend wants to buy a manual 200e.so as a favour me and parents went down to check it out.First thing we saw was new but irregular at points paintjob.Sticky gear when we test drove.Suspension confirm must replace.some sort of wire missing in the engine.i remembered from the old threads that some year of cars have bad wiring problems.made from recycled or something like that.

There were 4 others but auto in nice shape BUT he wants a manual.no idea why.the sales fella say its the only manual left in SG.saw some w210s there.wat caught my eye was a kompressor model sbz 2244 ? i think.

Had time on saturday to go down n take a look at this car. As eokh mentioned there was one at tagore. This is e SAME one. Think e dealer just passed it over I believe. Anyway, e car initially had a mileage of 470k on e odo. Now, 182 k.... Hmmm. Also when I saw it last year in tagore, e dealer said there were 6 or 7 owners. Tread carefully.

anyway, like i said the reason why i think this is the same one is that if you look at the sgcarmart ad, you will find that they have the same reg date. i find it hard to see how two manual 5 spd mercs could be registered on the same day. also as mentioned, i viewed the car last may at tagore while looking for my current 124. was very keen but scared cos of the same owners n high mileage. also, the guy wouldnt let me test drive it cos it was laid up. really damm stupid way to do business. dont hink ppl will buy a 20 yr old car if they cant test drive it right.

when i saw the car again last weekend, it didnt look any better. keep in mind, this car has basically been on sale since jan 09 if i am not wrong. lack of use might have perished seals and stuff. a real waste. this car was selling at 15k last yr. now 21k. ridiculous. really enjoyed the part when the dealer said that low mileage cos never use so often n only abt 3-4 owners.... siad it before n i'll say it again. these used car dealers r real crooks. anyway, there was a thread abt this car in sgmerc. got to dig the eclass folder to check.

honestly, the body looks good n engine is cheap to fix. if the guy could have quoted me a more reasonable price, i would have taken it i guess. trading my 91 auto with new recon autobox for a 89 manual....

Thanks guys.the highest gear we managed was 3rd cos make one round of carpark at roxy.well at least now i know whats going on.ive informed my brother and he will talk to his friend.i sure as hell aint going there to look for cars.probably changed the meter to reflect different mileage.

a ex colleague had a blue one when i joined a certain french company in 2004.

not sure if he still has it now. i left the company in 06

tt one's been on sale for a VERY long time. I think you would have serious problems selling it again,should u decide to let go. I would walk away from it.
