Acer laptops here hit by recall

THREE of the five models of Acer laptop computers recalled by the Taiwanese brand for overheating problems are being sold in Singapore and affected.

Its spokesman in Singapore, Ms Florence Koh, its channel sales director, said a microphone cable near the left palm rest of the machine could overheat when pressed on. 'The cable may overheat, melt, and that may cause a burning smell,' she said, adding that the problem 'was not major'. She added that the machine had only been launched for sale here since May this year.

Under the voluntary recall, Acer will collect the laptops from users, replace the affected parts for free and return the machines. Users can also drop the machines off at service centres as well.

Additional information I got from ACER support staff:

We will need 1 day for Singpost collection and 1 day for the rework. (day refers to Mon - Fri office hours).

Example:

- If we collect the unit from you on 19 Oct morning the unit will be completed and ready to send back to you on 21 Oct afternoon.

Please note that Singpost does not do delivery on Saturday and Sunday.

If you do decide to bring your laptop over to our Service Centre,it will very much depends on the number of customers that day. If there are too many customers our engineers may not have enough time to do it. Per rework estimates to take 2 hrs.

You can come on Tuesdays or Thursdays in the morning (less crowded), again it depends on the crowd that day.

wa u so 'heng' ar...toto also not so accurate...lucky i haven't buy a laptop ar was thinking to buy an acer laptop but better wait first...
