Thermatic aircon control

Hi folks,

I just booked my C180, sandine beige. Was deciding between IS250 or C180. Eventually, I still loves the look & feel of the merc.

During the test drive, I realised that the so called thermatic aircon will stop the internal air circulation after certain duration and brings in air externally, my sales exec informed that the car will do this automatically once it noticed that the O2 level in the cabin is low. Problem is, I hate the external air as it is usually CO2, she told me that the only way to revert the circulation back to internal air is to press the round temperature control and we have to do this every hald an hour???

So question :

1. How do u switch the air circulation to internal permanently?

Cheers.

Air-recirculation mode is off by default, so external air comes in with the fumes if any vehicle exhaust is close to the front of our cars.

The design to me is to dry or dehumidify the cabin air with the naturally dry cold air in temperate countries.

If air is not dehumidified in the cabin, the human perspiration will humidify the cabin air and the water vapour may fog the cold windscreen and windows.

MB's design of the system is definitely suited more for their cold and dry regions to use the naturally dry air to dehumidify the cabin.

Turning the air-recirculation on will stop external air coming in and recirculate the cabin air.

After the timer ends as mentioned in the manual, recirculation mode is switched off and external air will come in again.

Well, I appreciate the design and have chose to live with it in SG.

Of course I do hope firmware can be done and commissioned by MB to allow C&C to update the air-recirculation system for our region.

All the best!

My SE told me there is no way to permanently turn on the Air-Recirculation.

That's terrible!! First of all, our air-con is already not as cold as Jap cars, now with that Air-circulation off, the car is even hotter!!!

i'm very particular about air-con especially in our hot weather. Wish they could do something about it!!

Just got the C200 this week. Did not realise this during test drives. Only found this out when SC briefed during car collection. Wow, this is big problem. The link above did not work. Was that a link to a resolution?

Initially, i was put off by this from my wife's A class as well.... but after driving my C for a week or so, i realize the the aircon is quite good actually. Sometimes i drive without recirculation on,... and i dont smell any external fumes at all... when i do remember to switch it on, i dont feel the difference when it went off after half an hour. I guess the charcoal filter of the C is really working very well.

Another thing about the thermatic 2 zone aircon is, i dont feel overly cold and it regulates the temperature very well... And i dont need to set it down very low to feel the coldness.... in fact my son complain its too cold at 24 deg in front .... so i set his to 25, and mine to 24... feels comfortable to me this way, not cold, but not warm. In fact i think its the best climate control aircon i have ever used in all cars i've driven.

Maybe because i have huper optik installed.... maybe not.

OK good to know. Will try it out.

However, I find it odd that they don't give the driver/consumer the choice. Am sure the cut off is eletronically/computer controlled. Surely there must be a way to re-code it. Only question is how.

Bro, what you've stated above sounds scary to me in that a Merc C air-con really that bad? Are all Merc air-con that bad? even New Models? My apologies, haven't had the pleasure to own one nor have tried in 1 for a half hr drive under intense heat like what we're experiencing these couple of week

lol! I disagree whole heartedly. I would say my W203's (its old btw) air con is colder if not colder than my previous Jpn cars ('better' also applies). The fan intensity + the coldness it can reach is awesome. The way air con distributes the cooled air is also pretty cool.

When you get the chance read the user manual for the Air Con (Thermatic or Thermotronic) then you will realise how much thought they put into the system. I know of at least 14 air con vents, 4 temperature sensors in the Thermatic version and at least 2 more vents in Thermotronic (W211), 2 more temperature sensor, 4 sun position sensor on the bonnet. They all work in tandem to create a comfortable environment for its passenger.

I used to have the air con blowing at me (Jpn) because it was not powerful enough. Now I can have the air con blowing all around me; creating this house air con kind of feeling.

And yes, I got used to the default circulation off. In fact, I do not have a practice of turning it on anymore. Some fresh air keeps you awake, really it does.

I really agree with you whole heartedly. the W204 aircon is really great. Yesterday was a good example of immense heat. I parked the car under hot sun for 6 hours.... went to the car, wind down the windows, start the car, switch on the aircon, 4 adults and a kid came in, 5-7 mins later,... all are comfortably cooled.

It is not the "in your face" type of cold air blowing .... but all around like what you said... the whole ambient air was cool very fast and because its not blowing at me, it is very comfortable.

OK....after trying the car for few days... I am now convinced. There is no need to turn on the air re-circulation. I am very particular about outside air, and have to say that there is hardly any outside smell. Amazing!!

ah... there is a cabin filter (blocks pollen too if you're allergic) installed. no worries, they will change it for you every 50k i think. or earlier, not sure.

if you're lucky, and you have a thermotronic installed, there is a second filter, a carbon filter which filters out funky smell too.

unfortunately, i do not think there is. if there was, someone in the forum would have said so long time ago!

i guess the problem you face is the air flow is not as strong as when the circulation is on right?
