Check engine lights on persists and start engine failures - B170 Auto trasmission

Recommended Posts

Hi I am driving a B170.

Recently, the "check engine lights" goes on and it always fails like 2-3 times weekly when trying to start my engine.

Then the problem occurs more frequent till at least a few times daily. And so I went to my usual workshop to diagnose the problem and the technician said the catalytic converter of my car is damaged and I need to change it if not it will keep faulty engine start and affect the performance of the car.

He mentioned that the converter doesn't necessarily needs to be original Mercedes catalytic converter, and it will be cheaper for me to install other car brands catalytic converter. I have no idea so I took his advice and installed a Lancer's catalytic converter. And the problems seem to be resolved.

After 1 week, the problem persists and I went back again to re-diagnose, the technician said it is the same issue, but maybe it is because the catalytic of the Lancer is smaller that's why and he change another slightly same Japanese range catalytic converter again.

Now, 1 month later, the problem persists again!

Can anyone please advise on this urgently, is it really because of the catalytic converter? And will the problem really be solved if I install an original Mercedes catalytic converter this time? I really need to know what could be the possible issue?
