Audio Problem "Device Not Available"

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Can anyone advise me about this intermittent problem I have.

Firstly, I got a message from the car system telling me that my CD Player is not working, error message as follows: 'Device not Available' flashing intermittently on the screen. followed by a regular beeping sound. I tried to remove the 5 cds from the disc changer, but, this message keeps flashing together with the beeping alarm Able to use in radio mode, but, screen will carry on flashing with the beeping sound. This lasted for about 10 1 full day, and suddenly, the disc changers started winding, and we successfully ejected the 5 cds and the error msg + beeps went away.

I believe that this is only a short respite, so, will appreciate if any experienced experts here can help me? There's 2 things I wanna know:

1. What's the likely cost of changing the entire player. Taking into consideration, this car is 7.5 yrs old. Any reliable workshops that can change but at a much lower price?

2. What's the problem with my player? Is it very necessary to change the player?

Anyone knows about this ? Thanking you in advance.

Hi, just wanna share. I have encountered similar case for my cclass, my screen will keep popping up 'device unavailable', beeping sound and none of my cd can be play. Went for a check and found out that it's the disc changer that is faulty so they told me either repair or change the whole thing. Because mine is under lemon law and the dealer agreed to cover this so opt for the repair. Was told the cost by the Audio guy, est200-300 for repair and 2k for a new unit which not sure how true is it but didn't bother much cos I'm not the one paying lol.

Hi Rey,

Thanks for the reply. The player seems ok for now, playing cds per norm. But, it's good to know what type of damage I'll be expecting in the event that it breaks down again. :)

Btw, where did you get yours repaired?

Oh forget to mention, before I go to the audio shop, SE ask me to go to 1 of his mech shop to do a reset and run a test as he think is a setting issue. But after the reset, problem still exist so end up go to the audio shop to fix. Maybe you can try your mech to reset first and see whether the problem still exist. I fixed mine at 1 of the audio shop in sin Ming, the guy has some attitude problem so wouldn't recommend, you might want to try 1 of the sponsor site first but if price difference too much then you don't mind his attitude I can give you the contact of cos

Hi !

Got the same issue " device unavailable " which was a cd issue. Just got the w204 2nd hand so no info on what happen to the cd drive. System shows that the cd is empty but I can't load any cd. Even while on radio mode, I get this intermittent beep sound which is super irritating and loud with the "Device unavailable" message. Turning off the audio system does not even stop the beep sound.

Any bros or sis have this issue and manage to solve it. Send it to audio workshops and they manage to disable the beep sound for a while but problem came back once I restarted the vehicle.

They told me once they find a solution they will let me know.
