W212 cold start noise = timing chain tensioner problem

Hi, anyone experienced this problem?

My almost 4 year old E250 suddenly started making lots of noise on cold starts. Regular workshop says it's a timing chain tensioner problem and i did some research on Google which concurs. At least didn't bluff me.

But quoted me $3800 to repair!

Anyone got better (cheaper) workshop to recommend?

There are some service workshops mentioned in various posts of this site under the "services" thread, do take a look. Also give the site sponsors a call.

 

But you were quoted a really expensive repair! I thought just tighten the chain will do, which can be easily done.
