Engine Braking??

Titleist

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, just wanna know if its "healthy" for the merc engine if we constantly use engine breaking (down shifting gear) to slow down the car.  eg, before coming to a red light you down shift until 1st gear. Its been a habit of mine, cos driving manual car. But its awesome cos not only does it reduce your breaking distance , it also helps to save you tons of $$ on changing brake pads and rotor discs.

Any thoughts on this?

Sorry.. can you run that by me again? Do you mean to say when approaching traffic light, you kick on your cruise control to reduce your speed?

Actually most of d time i'm on Cruise Control (lazy driver i know), even though its juz a short distance in S'pore road. Wat i do is when approaching traffic light, juz turn on Cruise Control (if i'm not on it) n reduce 10km/h by every press down d Cruise Control stick all d way until 30km/h, by then at 30km/h shd be very very slow oredi then i step on d brake. I used it so often until my agaration very good.

I use Cruise Control braking. Approaching traffic light i reduce d cruising speed, so no gear no brake.

Yes my bro, the cruise control uses the brake too. Next time, just take a glance when you down your cruise speed, you will see your 3rd brake light lit up.

Bro can share which cruise control function u guys use to downshift?

Is the the speed limiter or the cruise?

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.
