Undercarriage (or whatever) noise?

Recommended Posts

driving a 2-mth old C180.

when going over uneven roads, there is this noise seemingly coming from the undercarriage or whereabouts.

it got worse when i changed to the ATE pads (see other thread) but after reverting to stock, the noise reduced significantly but still there.

i went back to C&C but they could not find anything.

anyone with similar experience and have localised this "noise"?

tks.

sounds odd if the noise is related to changing of brake pads when going over uneven roads. stock rims?

the SA showed me. i have explained in another thread. the after market pads were smaller than stock and when the wheels are rotated, the free space can actually create noise.

rims are not stock. 18" ADV.1 rims.

could you explain how the noise sounds like?

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

guys. many tks.

it is like a soft knock knock noise. like rattling when going over uneven roads. smooth roads or humps no issue.

maybe i am sensitive, which was what the SA said when i went over the 2nd time, "it is like that one."

i tried to convince myself but my earlier w204 dun have this leh...

chip soon tried to help look at the brake covers but they seem ok.

I was adviced by CnC today that it would be unwise to use the less brake dust ATE pads. Tests had been done and the brake disc will wear out faster due to the materials used for less brake dust pads as they're 'harder' unlike the stock brakes which are 'softer'. In the long run, one would not be better off using those less brake dust ATE brakes as the original Merc brake disc are not exactly cheap.

Hi chershen,

I have encountered this issue on my 4 months old c180 ( driver's side), I sent my car to c&c yesterday for tyre gas conversion and at the same time highlighted this problem. My service advisor immediately did a test drive to Stirling road where there are many uneven roads and bumpy car park. He even drove the car forward and reverse for almost 3-4 times in order to make sure that there is a defect.

After the test drive, he asked the technician to tighten the bolts, lubricate the rotors and rotate the front wheels with nitrogen gas topped up. It's about an hour for them to rectify and return the car to me.

I drove the same route this morning, so far there's no noise. Let me drive for few more days and we will find out.

I used to have this stupid click click click sound whenever I'm driving over uneven road.

CnC took out dashboard, replace this mounting that mounting help me do wheel alignment, put in sound proofing material and many many months later, they realize,

The seat that I'm seating is causing the sound. Change the padding and yeah. Quiet :)
