Fuel is a very personal choice, and quite often subjective. performance will vary with individual cars, with their states of tune and even ambient conditions (temperature, pressure) and driving styles will vary performance. Even things like sulfur content will affect the performance and reliability.

The minimum recommended fuel RON is what is specified by the manufacturer to ensure reliable operation. Having a higher octane fuel may improve performance, but only if your performance was being hampered by lower quality fuel in the first place. If your car has been optimised for 95, putting 98 wouldn't really make much of a difference. However if the ecu detects some knocking as a result of you running 95, it will retard the ignition timings and the result will be poorer performance and fuel economy.

Best way would be quantitative - run on a dyno, in similar conditions, using different fuels. and see which one works best for your car.

I remember doing this for my skyline some years back, and the reason was I ran more boost and had more aggressive cam timings, and I was getting some knock at low rpm/high load using 96 octane. I eventually settled on a product called optimax, which isn't available here.

I low mileage driver, cannot hit the minimum 200L to qualify for extra smiles points.  Guess CIti Dividend is still the card for me.
