60k Servicing - brakes, batteries

Just sent my car for 60k servicing. Need some advice and tips from other members, and also just for general sharing.

1) Battery - am told battery is about 3 years old (even though car is 2yrs + 6 mths). Think it is reasonable. Cost to change is $400+. Decided that since its just batteries, am sure I can get it cheaper outside. Correct?

2) Brake Pad & Brake Disc - am told both are worn. Am OK with brake pad wear, cause that's normal. But am really surprised the disc needs to be changed after only just 60k? Cost for both is $1,500+!! Wonder if it is reasonable to ask for disc to be on warranty? Anyways I told them I prefer to do this outside. Am assuming if I go to a reputable MB servicing outside, it should be cheaper and no worries with quality. Hope this does not void the warranty.

Advice most welcome.

My car just reach 50,000km and have change many items recently, allow me to share as I have done much research:

1) Change my battery $200 net for Amron Pro last month. I change with a Mobile guy after reading good review. Another bro change his at Nam Wah also $200. But i didnt change at Nam Wah cos the boss say he not so confident to change for Merc.

2) Brake: I wrote a detailed report few months ago on where i buy the original parts and change it outside at half the price. Pls do a search.

I was curious too why Rotor need to change at 50,000km.....but i calibrate and measure it and convnce need to change. I change front rotor/pads and rear pads only. NO....these are NOT underwarranty...you can try yr luck with c n c....

NO it wont void warranty as these are deed wear n tear as long as u use original parts.

Hope above helps. I can PM u if u need the workshop etc. A brother provided me that info previously so i am passing it along

Hi. I have a very novice question

How u guys knows that your brake pad and rotor are due for change?

Will there be a warning at the dashboard or instrumental cluster telling u to change? Thanks

yup, there is a 'check brake wear' indicator every time u start the car (or after a while driving).

sort of a nag until u get it changed.

Thanks guys for the valuable feedback. Really appreciate it. If I want to make it easier for myself and just leave it with an outside workshop, is there a list of reputable workshops for Merc in this forum pages?

Bro i have a few questions to ask

How old is your car vs 50k mileage?

Any difficulty in cranking that you change battery or just as preventive maintainence?

Which amaron pro batt you changed to?

And how you measured your brake disc to conclude to have to replace? I've just crossed 50k too

To answer yr questions:

1) 34 months reach 50K

2) No difficulty in cranking but feel a littel sluggish so just change since i can get a good deal $200

3) C Class W204 can only use 74 DIN any thing bigger cannot fit due to little space. Amaron Pro 74Din. If you use Varta also 74DIn

4) I wait till signal came up as the detection in our car is very accurate provided your sendor is NOT damage. I periodically check with a torch light from the rim.....just to be safe. When i rotate tire, its the best time to check.

Others: Well very hard to tell you how to check unless you are techically inclined. I always like to dismantle parts and put things back togeher since young. Sometime put back cannot work!!! LOL kenna whack by parents....

I work in gargage before when I was a small boy and have dismantle a complete Main engine from a ship.Yes those big ships!!!

Car pistons is about say 80mm dia and ships pistons diameter is 800mm dia!!!

Any bro need help to dismantle, call me.....how ever no guarantee can work after putting it back.....LOL

Bro,

Why your car need 2nos sensors?

My W204 only have 1 sensor on front driver side brake. Yours have 2 sensors or i missing something.....

Nam Wah change the battery for you too? Nice to hear that for $200

I think one sensor for the front pair and another sensor for the rear pair.

Need to change battery soon so I called up the mobile battery guy eric, think his prices went up now $220 for the battery if you go to him for the amron 74din. Seem a tad aloof when I chatted with him and didn't bother to provide much in the way of advise so I don't think I'd go with him.

A buddy of mine just changed his battery gave me a contact a bit cheaper and using bosch.
