Assumptions:

1. LTA Transfe fee of a COE car with low value= $150

2. Agent Fee = $600

3. Seller selling price of car number = $1,688

Buying an unregister new number plate from a seller

eg. Seller selling plate price : $1688

Transfer of COE car to seller name: $150 (eg. LTA transfer fee)

Transfer of VRN to COE car: $300 (LTA)

Transfer of COE car to buyer name: $150 (eg. LTA transfer fee)

Transfer of VRN to buyer exisiting car: $1300 (LTA)

or

Transfer of VRN to buyer for a new car:$100 (LTA) - Number retention

Agent fee: $600 (est.) (prevailing rates apply)

Total for buyer to change the VRN plate of an existing car = $4188

(Number Plate Price=$1,688, Agent Fee=$600, LTA fees= $1,900)

Total for buyer of VRN plate for a new car registration = $2,988

(Number Plate Price=$1,688, Agent Fee=$600, LTA fees= $700)

Buying a number plate from a seller exisiting car

eg. Seller selling plate price : $1688

Transfer of COE car to seller name: $150 (eg. LTA transfer fee)

Transfer of Seller VRN to Seller COE car: $1,300 (LTA)

Transfer of COE car to buyer name: $150 (eg. LTA transfer fee)

Transfer of VRN to buyer exisiting car: $1300 (LTA)

or

Transfer of VRN to buyer for a new car:$100 (LTA) - Number retention

Agent fee: $600 (est.) (prevailing rates apply)

Total for buyer to change the VRN plate of an existing car = $5188

(Number Plate Price=$1,688, Agent Fee=$600, LTA fees= $2,900)

Total for buyer of VRN plate for a new car registration = $3,988

(Number Plate Price=$1,688, Agent Fee=$600, LTA fees= $1,700)

Guys pls correct the above calculations if any of them are wrong!

1) How about the transferring back of the COE car to the dealer after the VRN has been successfully transferred to buyer's car? Is there another set of transfer fee to pay when we transfer the car to dealer?

2) Don't dealers charge extra for the insurance coverage of the COE car? Are they able to get 100% refund from the insurance company after the COE car is transferred back to them? Or, is the difference in premium refund already included in the overall agent's fee?

3) W.r.t seller's car, it will get the VRN of the COE car after everything is settled. Does the seller need to inform his insurance company to do the necessary endorsement for his existing policy, or will everything be kow-tim'd by the agent?

Asking because I am considering selling my 124's original '93 VRN if I don't intend to renew the COE next year.

You may have to ask LTA to simplify the process!

The easier way is to get "an agent" to do this for a small fee!

There're people in this line of business doing this buying, selling and transfer of VRN

My write-out is to highlight to members the "hidden fees" in buying a VRN.

That's why bid direct is the best. Less hassle and non of all these transfer here and there.

@confucius Number plates are highly emotional commodities. What's great to you may be just normal for others. In my opinion from a neutral perspective, meaning SKK nor 7707 has no symbolism for me, SKK7707K is not a number plate I'd even offer for. In my opinion, only number plates that are single digit, double digit both same numbers 88 99 are of value worth offering.

But that's just me and my own opinion. Others may value it so I definitely stand corrected.
