Some slight vibration experienced when starts car in the morning

Hi Bros

Need some advice if anyone experience similar problem when starting their car especially in the morning.  The vibration happens when in D mode. The vibration will slowly diminishes or become less after about 5 to 10min of continuous drive (highway). I have recently just changed the torque converter and transmission fluid so it should not be that or could it be some transmission issue or engine issue??

I have read in MB world that some say its normal due to some warm up thing.

Could it be the engine mountings?

Hi All

Thanks for the reply. The engine mount has been changed since 2015( I saw some date marking on the engine mount). The mileage is 109K, close to 9 years and its a W211. I am suspecting it could be a transmission issue since during the transmission fluid change, the fluid was quite black so not sure if transmission was burnt. Also, I replaced the 2 O-rings after I discovered some engine oil leaking out so maybe it could be an engine issue also??

I wanted to bring it to a trans specialist to check it out. Any good ones to recommend?

The weird thing is after driving a while, the vibration diminishes. Not sure if its a good thing as I am worried the problem will come back to haunt me in the future if I don't tackle this

IMHO, a 9 nine year old car, Merc or not, deserves a thorough lookover by a professional Merc workshop, especially if you intend to retain it beyond the last days of it's COE. Cheers

Engine mounts on Mercedes-Benz cars are oil filled. Their main purpose is to keep the engine vibrations from being transmitted to the cabin. Because they are oil filled, around 100,000 miles, they start to fail and lose the oil. When the engine mounts fail you may notice excessive vibration on the seat, in the cabin, and even on the steering wheel. The price of the engine mounts is reasonable when you buy the parts online. Replacing the motor mounts can take between 4 and 6 hours labor.

quite frankly, i wouldn't be too worried about slight vibrations during cold start that will go off. my personal experience on the engine mounts needing replacement will be the vibrations can be felt all the time on idle, even after the engine is warmed up.

likely engine mounts as others have mentioned. One other possibility although bit remote is the catalytic converter that has built up soot, once it has warmed up, the soot should clear and flow should be smoother....I am not well versed in this but I heard this theory from mechanics before

Yes, I intend to renew but also depends on the cost of repair so I will be sending to a trans specialist to check it out. Does anyone know a mercs trans specialist workshop where they will run diagnostics data or test?  Really appreciate it.

not sure if the mounting you used are original or OEM ...
my mechanic gave me those OEM (more economical) but still gave way about 1.5 yrs of usage.

The next thing is the leak with the air pipe underneath the kompressor (common fault for w211) ... it will cause engine warning lights (high octane mixture, lack of air mixture ) your car will kinda have the same vibration. Merc Tranny don't give out too much vibration. commonly, its the engine (straight in-line config) ...

Hi bro

Thanks for the advice. I am planning to have a check on the engine soon. I don't really think it the engine mount issue as the vibration goes away after a short while...usually engine mount issue, the car will keep on vibrating. Will update everyone over here again.

Just to share my experience.

My 2 years old E250(mileage 29K+ km) randomly vibrate some 5 months ago. It sometimes happened during early morning start and coming to a stop position. Came across postings in this forum about frequent premature wear n tear engine mounts.

During my recent 30K km service, highlighted the vibration issues to the service advisor to check my transmission/engine mountings and engine ECU management. End of the day, called to report that the 2 front hydraulic mounting are causing the engine vibration. They acknowledged the worn out mountings to be change under warranty. Now the car is in perfect condition!

Hi All

Here is an update:

I tried to do an ECU reset and it seems that the problem has not appeared (finger cross). I figured since I am going to send to a workshop to take a look, no harm taking a risk and doing a reset and to my surprise, the car seems ok now. Drive also seems better.
