enquires in buying a 09 s300 w221

hi, im looking to buy a 09 s300 and renew another 10 year COE..

would like to see opinion of some folks here..other then the usual airmatic suspension and door suction..

any other issues that i need to take note of? e.g the 7G gearbox? other electronics? engine?

have checked the replacement of the airmatic replacement @ autospritez (brand is Arnott)... abt 1k per side.. which is pretty ok.. but does the airmatic fail often?

struggling between e300 and s300...

thanks for the advice here..

Nothing scary for w221. Maintenance is very reasonable. Some parts are even cheaper than Japanese cars.

airmatic depends on how you drive, if always carry passengers etc. usually will last you at least around 2-3years.

door suction even spoilt is optional to replace, cos the door will still close if suction not working.

E class deprecation and S class depreciation is not much difference. Why go for E then?

I have both the E (W212) and S (W221) class concurrently

I spent close to $18 k for S class repair for past 3.5 years of ownership

My E class cost me $1500 so far for the past 2.5 years

But the ride comfort of the S class is unbeatable.

And I'm keeping my fingers crossed on my S class, cos the common issue of 7G gearbox and Engine ECU may come knocking on my door in a year or 2, which will set me back by about another $4k+ and $2k+ respectively

FYI if your repairs are done by C&C, of cos will have to pay a bomb.

on both my s350 and s300 my repairs are usually labour only(got the parts myself), so cost wise is very manageable.

Most expensive repair I have done before is replace gearbox valve body, which is close to 3k for parts, labour and programming. Still it is quite ok for this sort of costing.

Looking at a 2009 S300L... 1 owner with about 90k miles on it... looks quite ok and how do I check if the airmatic is ok?

if there are no message on the dash that say car too low, and if you look at the car (when the engine is running) see if the car appear odd in terms of height. You can press the raise car button and see if it works....that's pretty much what you can do on your own. Else workshop check on the cover of airmatic for wear. If it decides to kaput, not much pre-warning. So good luck on that

Hard to estimate the remaining lifespan of the struts as they breakdown without prior signs. One way to know if your struts will be dying soon is to check for cracks or tears on the black rubber dust cover on the struts. If there are tears, the struts will die prematurely.
