Good Workshop Needed to Overhaul my W140

Recommended Posts

Hi All Bros and Sis,

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

My old W140 S280 1992 needed a good overhaul as I intend to keep for another 5 to 10 yrs.

Appreciate recommendations on workshop / mechanics who are good at servicing this car at a reasonable rate in Singapore or JB.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers

Sunny Tang

Yup..but pls do not expect the workshop condition like those in singapore .. got Kopi & sofa

They are hardcore mechanic .. that really do "repair" & not replace work..

I was there last year Dec to replace the crank sensor on my W204 ...

Planning to go there in a month time to change my engine mount.

I would say, they are good in sorting out engine mechanical problem, eg timing belt, cam, belt, pulley, suspension, mount, spark plug, engine oil change etc ... & not those electronic problem

P/S: it's nearby my parents place & I go north very often..

Try Kompressor Automotive Workshop

The owner Ali has an old Mercedes and used to work for C&C iirc. Used to go to him until I changed to a ride that was under warranty by third party workshop.

Tel: 6745 7574

8 Kaki bukit Ave 4 #02-48 Premier @ Kaki Bukit

bro just to check do u have to pay for your checks at Kompressor Automotive Workshop? I  visited them after seeing some recommendation in the forum and ended up they charge me for checking the car and didn't give me any sound advice. In addition the repair cost he quoted is much more expensive than other workshops.  In the end I spend $60 and did nothing.... problem is still there and there's not concrete solution to it as he mentioned what he suspect may not totally eradicate the problem. So I guess it could be one of those tricks those old school workshops like to use. Anyone face the same before?

Yes.. the pricing is on the high side.

I've been there for repair 2 times..

and the 2nd time was the last straw for me .... really ... marked up too much..  The 2nd repair was just last week.

he does gets the problem fixed but.. i'm not going back.

you just have to go to a few more workshops to find out one that works for you.

For me, I know carousell prices are quite competitive and so you can use that as a baseline when you go to workshops to ask for repair.

Agree...Kompressor Auto's pricing is indeed much higher. Went there for a change of brake pad due to wear and tear. Then the Boss-Ali told me all my discs need to change too. I took his advice and change rotor disc and brake pad (full set). When I asked him for the price first bef proceeding, he kept delaying on his ans, saying he was waiting for the supplier in the same building to sent him the price and the stock. While waiting for the supplier, he took down the discs. At this stage, I didnt pressed for an ans anymore and hoped that he would be honest as what someone commented on him online. When everything was done, he passed me the bill which cost $1600(still keeping the receipt) for the job! At the same time, he pleaded with me not to nego on the price as he was giving his best price. As I dont have the time to research on the price, I trusted him then. However, after 2-3 mths later, my father in law also did a similar change at C**P S**N, and realised he got it done at only $1250. Tts $350 more for a 3-4hr job! Wont recommend and wont going back...1st time and last time

Hi Savage888

U didn’t mention what Ride  u are having & first time driving a Mercs ?

Nowadays ppl Enquires abt the prices of the Repair before going down or before the wshop even start work ,why?

Many Shop around & Basically noe what’s the Actusl price before  even the Spanners comes out.

i notice yr story mentioned 2 wshop ,Kompressor & Chip Soon(wondered why u *** off)any secret?

Dis 2 are totally different Shop.

Kompressor used to be ok but with a Decent mechanic ,nowadays Ali work on cars which he normally dun do,perhaps cost cutting, the price are Pretty alrite.

Chip Soon are known to be X’pensive ,somebody tells me Mobil oil change 200 plus .but dey do an exceptional work ,Many ppl nowadays onli go there for trouble shooting ,hardly repair, cos dey dun allow owner to bring their own spares(more later).

Dis post basically talk abt cost & nuthing else .

U should try Buying yr own spares & bring to wshop but a word of caution ,not all Shop allow dis & generally charged a bit more for labour(understandably)but u still saves a Bundle.

I notice dis story involve around Brake pad & u didn’t mention what pad u are using.

Dun use Original MB pad ,dey are Damn Dusty.

U can PM me yr Mobile & we can chat more in details.

Mercs owners nowadays are pretty astute in their Servicing & repair.

Dis is an interesting posting .

What I wans to ask is what issue is yr Mercs having ?

Dat ,u didn’t says at all .

When u ask Wshop to do sumthing or  inspect anything ,u gotta Enquire abt the price.

i tot dats what most Ppl do nowadays ,they even ask in forum like dis .

Hey my compressor got sound ,how much to sort it out?

Nowadays ppl are veri practical ,Price before Everything .

I m surprise u didn’t ask.
