W211 E200 Aircon checking

Diesel

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Noticed that my aircon is getting weak. When car is idling, aircon is not cold. It only becomes slightly cold when the car is accelerating.

And the blower is not throwing out strong air although the blower is turned to max. Sounds quite hollow, so suspect it's chokage somewhere.

Anyone knows of any workshop that is specialised in W211 aircon?

Thanks in advance!

Last month already start having problem. So went to do aircon servicing at R2D.

Was ok for a short while and now aircon problem is back again.

Air filter is clean. But the airflow is not strong despite max setting.

Do you think max cool is familiar with W211 aircon? I suspect need to use software tools to check if the servo motor flap is fully open or not.

Hi bro Diesel,

So far I did not encounter any problem on my 9.5yr old W211 yet.

For my previous Jap ride, I always patronize Tomika in Bt Merah Lane

http://www.tomikaautoaircon.com/

They are quite knowledgeable in all car makes' aircon.

However, I did come across in this forum some bro here went to a more professional aircon service workshop but I couldnt recall which one.

For more DIY attempt, you can check out this website for information:

Hope this helps.

Cheers :)

Hi Bro Diesel,

I think all vehicle aircon compressor, regardless of makes/models, are quite subjective in life span.

I would say "Heng-Suay". Some Jap car aircon even can break down within a year.

(one of my ex-colleague 1999 Honda Civic, long time ago, as I recalled , aircon compressor kaput for no apparent reason -under warranty of course! Haha)

If you adhered to regular / periodic maintenance, I do believe it will last longer.

On the other hand, I also think that its not always the aircon compressor problem.

Fan Coil/Condenser Unit is another culprit. Once you hear some hissing sound, (lau gas - freon gas leakage), most likely the fan coil/condenser piping are corroded, pitted, and will need to be replaced. There is no repair as I understand and your car aircon will not be cold very soon.

Let the expert car aircon workshop take a look and surely they will be able to advise you more on your car aircon problem.

Cheers

Thanks CH_OldMerc!

C&C has quoted $400+ to check and chemical wash the evaporator without taking it out. Wonder if any aircon shop outside does this too. At least can eliminate the possibility of evaporator chokage.

Hi,

From your symptom explanation , seem to suggest two separate issues, or it's linked..

1. blower is not throwing out strong air   - this has nothing to do with compressor ... if the blower is strong (at least sound is strong), it could be air vent flap problem

2. Not cold .. is it because problem (1), not enough air, therefore do not have enough cold air, or even with tiny amount of air, the air still not cold ..

Before narrow down to compressor or evaporator, better to be clear on above ..

regards

Hi Catfish,

1) I'm suspecting air vent problem too. Any way to diagnose this?

2) Not cold not likely due to the low  airflow cos the offcoil temp from the air vent itself is not cold. Just top up gas yesterday. Suspecting refrigerant leakage... hopefully it's not the evaporator leaking

Thanks!
