Do Stop Start cars need special battery?

I'm almost 18 months into my C180 and am thinking of bringing it to a petrol station to check/change on battery. I googled that stop-start cars need special batteries.

Any expert to advise?

should be AGM battery type for newer models with start stop.

the OEM brand is Varta for merc cars.

price not very big gap from C&C workshop if you want piece of mind to change and still be under C&C battery warranty.

depends on model as it will affect the battery size/price.

for CLA recall is around $400-$500 under C&C.

If more than 1 year warranty and no longer get Eco mode means battery is weak.

I see... so what's the normal lifespan of a merc battery (new car bought from C&C) with stop-start function?

18mths is about right.

you should also see what other systems you have in the car, eg. ICE? etc.

Hi,

For Merc, the battery (@engine bay) is located in an insulated corner, it's very well shielded from engine heat .. in fact, it's hardly heat up even after long drive ..  this help (a lot) in prolong the battery life..   unlike most other car design, the battery is just next to engine....  

 

Of cos, best location for battery still behind .

so I brought my car to a Shell station and they tested m battery says 89% still good

 

told me AGM battery is $600!

If you own a iRoad dashcam, you can monitor your battery voltage on your phone.

Voltage won't tell you the health of the battery. It can be 12V but weak current so can't start. Have to measure the CCA.

I bought a CTEK battery analyser to measure the battery strength. Saved my car twice from having sudden dead battery.
