Body kits - Original vs. After Markets

Recommended Posts

Hi, have some amateur questions relating to body kits (eg: AMG body kits)

- what are the materials used in most factory fitted body kits. Will there be better quality replica body kits using the same materials? (Eg: no compromise on cracking, safety, etc)

- is there original genuine body kit from after market supplier and how do we know if the items are genuine?

- if installing from after market source using replica body kits, how do we determine if the replica quality and are there any areas that we should be focusing?

Thanks.

What are you worried of? That when you're driving and the body kit fly off? Lol

Anyway, don't doubt aftermarket kits. There are some who make the same or even better quality kits than originals. To name a few, Brabus, Lorinser, Mansory, etc. Just do enough research on the kit you wanna get. Most of us get our kit from CarbonRevo, GMS, etc.

For all genuine parts, there is the original part label and serial number. Again, get your parts from a more reputable source rather than the cheapest. Just like buying an expensive watch, why risk it by buying from a grey or black shop although it's cheaper but you're unsure of it's authenticity?

Bodykits nowadays are made of PU, be it original or aftermarket.

Gone are the days where  it is made of fiberglass during the 90s

PU are softer and more flexible and can bend a little during small knocks, unlike fiberglass that will simply crack.

Safety wise no diff be it original or aftermarket, cos its just for cosmetic purpose and does not absorb impact or distribute crash energy.

Only thing is aftermarket/replica workmanship may not be as good and you may see some gaps/alignment out, but should be able to rectify with a good spray paint shop.
