2011 Mercedes CLS will also be Hybrid

Mercedes is already working at the second generation CLS that will make its world debut during a major car show in late 2010 with sales following in early 2011. Big news is, that next to the standard engine, the future CLS will also be offered as a hybrid.

It will get the same powertrain as the forthcoming S400 Hybrid that will be launched at the end of 2009, which means that the CLS Hybrid will make use of lithium-ion batteries that not only weigh less but also offer more power than the nickel hydride units used in today’s hybrids.

Design will follow the basic shape of the current generation model adorned with styling elements from the German automaker’s newest cars.

I like that the new (rendered) styling retains the iconic silhouette and proportions, and yet has an edgier look. More interesting is the addition of a hybrid option. If Lexus could bring the 0-60 mph of the GS300 from 7.1 to 5.2 sec with its hybrid, let's see what Mercedes' Bluetec could do to the CLS' sprint! Then, definitely maybe... >:D

yes - the GS450 Hybrid is indeed a marvel is it not ? I bet if the body looks a little more aggressive (ala A5/S5)

vs the current sedate looks ... :angry3:

seems alot of hybrid models are being churned out over the next few years ...

however, still hope the diesel tax will drop more for the intro of turbo diesel models
