Hi everyone,

Had the good fortune of acquiring an '81 SLC. Noob to MB. Would appreciate tips from the experts here.

I'm still hunting for a workshop who can handle classic MB. Current issues are:

1. Central locking system not working.

2. Signal indicators does not return to home position after turn.

3. Chrome on glass borders peeling.

4. Clock not working.

Would be great if you guys can recommend some workshop contacts pls.

Looking forward to exchanging information with you guys =)

Hi Rauman77,

Welcome to the w107 club. I have a 1979 280SLC.

1) Central locking works off a vacuum system. Hence the cause of the system not working needs to be traced to exact problem, I.e vacuum leak, spoilt switches, spoilt pump etc. Not an easy DIY job.

2) Signal indicator not returning...could be a worn out part in the indicator switch. You may have to hunt for a replacement indicator stalk.

3) "Chrome" peeling. Are you referring to the vertical slats in the rear? Common age issue that can only be fixed by removing the whole glass part, dismantling the components and respraying.

4) Clock not working...probably due to work out gears.

Have a look at the www.benzworld.org forum. Join as a member and search through the w107!forum pages where others have had similar problems and posted fixes etc.

Workshops in Singapore....I go mainly to Carewell in Sin Ming. Go speak to Francis there and he might be able to give you some suggestions.

If you want to meet up and compare bits n pieces drop me a PM.

Happy motoring!
