Mine is both side front. Depending which side is going through the uneven surface.

It usually happens over small bumps especially roads that have undergo construction. even for roads within the HDB ( Brick type )

and the sound, sounds like you take a metal rod and knock left and right underneath.

It happen months ago and i got the absorber change but sound still persist and i got all the linkage and arms change though it reduces the sound but wasnt happy about it and i got a 2nd absorber change again and tada, its gone. but it came back recently. :/ so I wana rectify the problem first before spending more again.

Not sure whether your problem is similar to mine. I spent $2+K on the shocks and lower arm links to find the problem still persist, though there was improvement.

Finally I got rid of the sound totally by lowering (adjust) the hood stopper, plus put a felt over it. It was a DIY and $5 job.

What caused the sound was the hood stopper rubbing against the hood whenever the car went over humps. You can check for marks where the stopper comes in contact with the hood.

See photo of hood stopper:

To add: Adjust both sides and ensure they same hight. Apply felt on both. Let me know if this works for you :).
