In response to a snide remark that I have to buy a R172 to get a illuminated star....

 

Eat back your words and watch how I do it...My DIY Illuminated STARLIGHT (for R171 ONLY)

 

Part 1 - instead of the usual 3 LEDs, 6 super LEDs were added....I want it Ironman's arc reactor bright!

 

 

 

Part 2 - OEM SLK R171 Star logo and a chipped acrylic Star logo (had to redo)

 

 

 

Part 3 - OEM R171 Star logo bonding perfectly with a re-cut acrylic Star logo...waiting for it to dry...

 

 

 

Part 4 - Dismounting the STAR housing/front grill. Fragile as it is, this is a one piece part on its own. Unlike all existing MB models including R172, it's evident why mass producing the Illuminated star will not be profitable, least to mention, made available for owners of R170 and R171.

 

 

Part 5 - Now that the one piece star housing/grill is released, we will need to retrofit the LEDs into 3 incision-like slots and glue on the Star logo / acrylic star.

 

 

Part 6 - Tested out the lume and reassemble back.

 

 

 

Concluding note

 

When I was a boy, mum and dad taught me to wish upon a star.

Now that I am all grown up, I drive a SLK with a brightly lit STAR.
