driving up steep hill

Driving c180k up quite a steep hill yesterday and found no power. I see this D - and + sign on our gear box. Do we need to switch gear? Or should we just switch to sport mode? Can advise?

You can drop gear or go sports mode. Both will achieve the same effect.

Don't know if this is related but I had problems with cold start, loss of power, gear box jerkiness. 2 year old car with about 65k mileage. Realize in the end was due to the small capacity (60Ah) battery that came with the car becoming weak. Changed to a 80Ah battery and problem solved.

Bought pre owned. I did ask and was told only D. No other D gears. My earlier Toyota, I usually will shift down to D2 when I go up a steep hill. The manual wasn't very helpful.

Today drove to same steep slope and engaged d1. Much smoother to go up. But got to constant change the gear to get back to D.

Full service done cost about 1600. Car got back its original power guess its due to engine mounting and spark plugs
