According to my workshop Kompressor/ 5 Gear gearbox is more durable than 7 Gear / 7G tronic Gearbox

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

Been dragging them with paddle shifting... holding at max  6th gear for maximum power.... and I suspect servicing not done very regularly... thus it will give a thud thud sound... when changing gear.... gear shift is not smooth...

IMHO, I think the gear shitting for 5 gear gives better right response throughout the power bands but loosing out on smoothness when gear changes and on highway cruising.

ya, agree totally. that's what i am experiencing when i drive around. always thought that the 7-G gearbox should be alot better, but one never knows, huh....

Hi the 7Gtronic gear has been around for some time but i think you are right it was only recently introduced to the lower cc mercs. In the past the 7G was mated to mercs with V6 and higher cylinders and these are typically 2.5L models and up.

I think the lower cc mercs will work better on the tried and tested Kompressor engines...but i guess Mercedes just wana employ marketing gimic n slap on the 7G anyway to the newer lower cc models as a "selling point"...

hi,

not sure i understand why the 7G tronic gearbox will work better with bigger engines? is it that it was designed to change gears based on the characteristics of bigger engines?

I drove my 5 speed W203 for 8 years and have never look back now that I am driving a 7gtronic W204.

This 7 speed is world apart from the 5 speed in terms of smoothness right from a stand still acceleration to expressway speed. I wouldn't take the 5 speed if I can.

The 7 speed makes the car more lively and it's certainly better than the 5 speed.

Any idea if I only do my 1st servicing at c&c , do I still have warranty with them? My car is less than 2year, mileage 50k, will they still accept? My gear box gt problem Liao, any guru can advise, Tks ya. Urgent.. Pls help

I have problem with my gear box after travelling 60K+. They entertain my claim, which would cost 8K to repair. Good will claim.

Good luck.

Finally found a thread on gearbox thank you!

I also have this thud thud sound when I change my gear from N to D, or D to N to R. May I know is it due to not enough servicing or auto transmission fluid?

Or is it that gearbox spoiling syptom?

Oh anyway mine is 05 CLS, mileage already 143km liao..
