Announcement Regarding Fabian Thang ("MooMoo") / M-BOS - Solicitation of SGMerc Members   01/08/2017

It has come to the admins and moderators' attention, through various complains from members reaching out to the SGMerc team via the "Contact Us" form on the SGMerc's website; that the founder of M-BOS ("Mercedes-Benz Owners Singapore"), Mr Fabian Thang, has been been approaching new and current members alike on SGMerc, solicitating SGMerc's members, through the private message function, to join M-BOS' Whatsapp group and paid/premium membership 'club'. He has been doing said action above via his SGMerc account, "MooMoo". We have issued a statement previously that SGMerc, in no way, shape, or form, has any affiliations with said M-BOS club. You can find the previous announcement here: While we have always been an open community, and acknowledge that sub-groups, new clubs, etc will be formed through members interacting in SGMerc, we will not stand for unprovoked solicitation through our website, causing a nuisance to members and making use of the SGMerc platform for monetary gains. SGMerc is and will always be a FREE-TO-USE website for all members and guest, and we do not collect monthly, annual, or any premiums or dues from members to use this website and the information on it. With the above, MooMoo's account has been banned permanently with immediately effect, and the new clone account he has created "Carterie", will be banned as well. We ask all members to please report any solicitation, advertisements, or unwanted spam from the forums to the SGMerc Admins & Moderators via the Contact Us page or the Report Post button. We will take immediate steps to ensure that no such nonsense happens on the forums. Lastly, while Mr Fabian Thang has been banned, SGMerc reserves all right to retain the information on his account and will use said information in case of any legal recourse should it be required. We urge all members to do your own due diligence when joining a paid membership club. Thank you. SGMerc Admins & Moderators

Engine oil

66 posts in this topic

What type of engine oil do you use? I am gathering feedback to see which type of oil best suit CGI engines, so that I can try on my next service.

For me, I tried Mobil one 5W40 synthetic and I find that the engine gets noisier after 10k. Currently I am using Roar ROAR Lubricant 'RS' Special Fully Synthetic Engine Oil and the engine seems more willing to rev, but expensive though.

Also, have any tried 5W30 grade oil like Redline or Castrol Edge Titanium before, and what is the feedback?

Mobil 1 (Gold) is still the best. How old is your ride? If its more than 2 yrs, 5w30 Grade is not recommended. Incidentally, the CGI engines are really hot due to the Turbo. Though C&C recommends 15k km service interval, I would prefer to do an oil change (only) in between at 7-8k km.

My ride is abt 2 yrs old but still relatively average in mileage. Mobil is good but I felt that it doesn't last that long, you can tell when it starts to get a little noisy at 8k. For me, I still stick to the 15k service interval but use longer lasting oil. Anyway I dont find the engine getting too hot maybe because I have an upgraded intercooler.

I think all mods $5k leh. Intercooler is $2k fitted. Dunno whether worth the money as S3 for VW is only around $600+.
