A menstruating woman refused to budge from the baccarat table she had been gambling at for more than 12 hours - not even when her menses stained her clothes, the chair and the carpet.

A counsellor told The New Paper about the incident, which occurred in March at the Marina Bay Sands casino. He said the woman lost her job, her husband and her home due to gambling.

Marathon gamblers have been in the spotlight after after a man was recently sentenced for driving after gambling for 15 hours. He dozed off at the wheel and killed an elderly pedestrian.

Counsellors and psychiatrists said there are several factors that encourage gamblers to spend long hours in a casino.

It's a psychological addiction, and its had some really heartbreaking results in other countries. Mothers have left their kids in locked cars out in the sun while they go gamble and come back to a dead kid 10 hours later. I've seen a lady soil herself because she refused to leave a jackpot machine.

There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full.

Yeh that's true... and it doesn't help that casinos are essentially psychological minefields. there are no clocks/windows so your sense of time is dilated, and the machines/tables are strategically located so from an aerial view it looks like a maze... meant to trap a person.

even the carpets play a role - the swirly patterns against the red is especially picked cos it evokes a comfy, 'safe' feeling.

yeah... must use tissue to wipe first... hahaha... who knows what other mysterious liquids there are...yucky!

But I actually know of a hardcore gambler who wears adult diapers so she wouldn't have to waste time to pee and poo... hahaha...
