NIGHTMARE!!! C200 Died on me!! HELP!!

Hey bros,

I had a horrible nightmare on Friday afternoon.

After i parked my car and left it for 5 minutes, i came back and the car wouldn't start!!

So i called AA for assistance, and after 40mins, the first truck came, tested y battery and found nothing wrong, left and i waited another 3 more hours before my car was able to be towed away to a workshop.

At the workshop at sin ming, the owner told me that this was a "Green Key issue":blink: and that i had 2 routes: The fast and the Slow.

Fast - Get See n See to adopt my car at a price tag between 5-10k!! and maybe can fix in 2 weeks. (about 8-10k total cost)

Slow - Order in the part from KL and 1-2 months (3k cost)

I read up online and realised it was some kind of "Steering Lock" issue?

Need some help guys -

1) Anyone encounter such problems before?

2) Any other cheaper way to solve this?

3) Anyone know a good and cheap workshop that can remedy this fast?

4) Possible to buy the parts ourselves? Heard that there was some encoding involved!!

Help needed urgently guys!! If inconvenient to post here, can PM me and i will reply with my number so we can chat!

Thanks!!

Contact our site sponsor for 2nd opinion.

MBM @ Sin Ming or

Starblack in Ubi or Boon Lay!

IMHO nothing these 2 mentioned workshops can't do.

Meanwhile don't stress yourself out!

Hi, i had the same problem sometime back. I know all about it, the C200 2008-2010 has this problem with the steering lock. You r right about the green key, need to order from germany and it is a security issue to safe guard your car after the lock is fix. It does take sometime for the key to arrive if you are not doing it with C&C. It will cost you between $3-4 K . You know what i manage to drive the car till the key arrive, I got my C200 repaired at auto spritze , look for Ah Heng. It was sunder warranty then. if you need to talk send me an sms at 97571402. I am away now. Cheers

No warning at all man... like kena cancer..

I went home during lunch to pick up something from home, parked the car, went up to get the item, came down within 15mins and it died...

Looks like this guy is pretty honest, the price he quoted was also 3k, also told explained regarding the Steering Lock and indenting key from Germany..

I think this should be a sticky in the C class forums for unsuspecting owners... think it happens in C200 2008-2010 models only..

Just paid the deposit last evening.. Heart pain.. hearing that it will take 3-4weeks..

I don't know which is more heartpain, the wait or the cash.. :(

Big thanks to bro Chowellor for calling me all the way from Taiwan to explain the issues that he faced too and walking me through step by step.

Apparently it seems that it is possible to restart the engine, although its a short term solution, cos the problem will happen again. But perhaps can save some bros here Towing charges.

I also read on other forums online that all one has to do is toggle and fiddle with the steering, so adjust it up down left right until a click is heard then the car should be able to start again..

Never had a chance to try though..

actually i also had this problem with my c180 before. it might have been an electrical problem.

i bought my car from a 2nd hand dealer before. the car was nicely souped up. bodykit all. one fine day the car just simply couldn't start. i towed the car to the workshop. they took a look at the electricals....

below the steering wheel? they took out all the wires and found a big bunch of weird looking wires... the previous owner added "remote start" also did some weird funny back reserve cam wires... like 2..... and a whole bunch of useless stuff. All these can also cause e vehicle to stall
